So i tried iOS 10 and loved but of course it's too bugged out to be my daily driven iOS and reverted back to iOS 9.3.3 B2. Everything was restored perfectly fine but when I go into my Messages there are no Messages besides the ones I sent/received today? The storage under Settings shows that 4GB+ is associated to Messages but I can't see my old Messages anywhere?

Suggestions?

How did you go back? Did you restore and then put your last backup from 9.3.3 or earlier back on?

Sorry for the late reply, I basically just restored from iTunes using the 9.3.3 B2 IPSW.

So you just "updated" to 9.3.3?

It could be that iOS 10 uses a different way/encryption to store the messages what you can't revert without a backup.

Messages appears now in the iCloud Drive settings of the new macOS and is activated by default. It is maybe for synching and that could have lead to some big change.

Correct, just a straight update back to 9.3.3 B2. I know that probably wasn't the best choice but I got lazy and didn't think it would cause so much issues =\

I just re-installed iOS 10 B1 and my Messages are still not showing... I really really don't want to start from scratch again man.

Do you at least have a backup from before updating to iOS 10? Or before downgrading? I don't know any other option to get them back.

As you can't see the messages in 9.3.3, the update to iOS 10 might also not have recognized them now anymore as Messages and can't read them from where they have been stored before the downgrade, maybe because they have been encrypted by the first update with a different key or something like that.

But that's all just speculation. I really don't know.

Thanks for the suggestions, at this point I think I'm just going to wipe it clean and start fresh again =\

It is amazing how many people still dont make a local backup before upgrading iOS, specially when its a beta version.

Always make a backup and move it to another folder in your computer before upgrading. Not only you can use that backup in case of an issue, but the new backups iTunes make on the newer versions are usually not compatible with old versions and simply wont allow you to restore from that.

For everything else, iMessage in iOS 10 is very different than the one in iOS 9 and should show some compatibility issues in the early versions. If you dont have a backup saved, I really think there is no way back to it.
If you have iCloud Backups enabled, and you havent synced after upgrading to iOS 10, that could be a way out.
