iOS 10 broke forwarded Gmail functionality

I have one of my work Gmail accounts set up to also send a copy to my personal Gmail account. I used to be able to delete the copy in the personal account if not urgent and still go to the original mail in the work account later and it was still in the inbox.

Now if I delete the copy in the personal account, it also gets deleted from the work account.

It still works as it should on a desktop where deleting the personal copy leaves the original in the work account and always worked like this prior to iOS 10.

What is different in iOS 10 that makes this simple process no longer work?

Just a tip, give it another chance soon. Gmail has had server problems internationally for the past couple of days (yesterday and today). This tidbit was splattered all over the interwebs last night and this morning, and Google copped to it...

I'd hazard a wager that it's related to tens of millions of iPhone users hammering their servers...

Are both accounts just different Gmail accounts or just completely different accounts (one from Gmail and one from something else completely)? Are both accounts set up on your phone, or just the Gmail one?

Both are Gmail accounts & both are on my iOS devices. All still works as it should on a PC but fails on both my iPhone & iPad after iOS 10 install using the mail app. It also works as it should using the Gmail app. It's only the stock mail app.

Deleting an email from one account should never delete it from another. I've made no changes on my end.

I've since discovered that if I delete it from within the email by tapping the trash can, it deletes the email from the other account as well. If I swipe left from the preview and choose trash, it ARCHIVES the email from the other account.

The problem is neither of these actions should ever, and never have before today, have any effect on the email still sitting in the inbox of the other account.

Looks like you're right! I toggled off all threading options and when the next message came in & I deleted it from the 2nd account, it remained in the 1st.

Seems like a clunky fix but I can live with it and don't care much for the threading anyway.

It might not necessarily even be all of the threading itself, but one of the newer options related to it (probably the one for pulling other related messages or something like that). You can kind of experiment to see which one it might be, but even without that at least it seems to be working.

You can do it in the Mail app, but the Gmail app has its own settings and those have never provided an option for that unfortunately.
