I just spent 2 minutes waiting for the call feature on my phone to unfreeze.

iOS 10 is freezing up my dial pad, and won't let me double click the home button to close and re-open the dial pad. Nothing else is running in the background either, the phone hasn't just booted on or anything.

If I needed to call 911, I would be absolutely screwed.

Sounds like there might be something weird with your install/device. Have you tried some troubleshooting (like resetting, resetting networks settings or even all settings, perhaps even reinstalling)?

Yup. I probably wouldn't blame iOS 10 right away. You are definitely having issues. Like the previous posters said. Possibly a software issue because of a bad or corrupted install. But there are support tools out there for you to use. Possibly a restore is needed. You can follow the countless articles out there on how to proceeed. But if iOS 10 was causing this issue on nearly all iPhone 5s's, it would be much bigger news.

A friend of mine is having similar issues on her 5s after an update to ios 10. The touch id has also stopped working after the update.

Try rebooting the phone, or restoring it as new (backup to iTunes first).
I have used iOS10 on my iPhone5 since the beta, and it is running fine.

You know, I have done a full wipe, and I still have the issue occasionally. This is entirely new since iOS 10.

Yes, *I* have a problem... with iOS 10.

Grumpy pants.

Tried a DFU restore?

My dial pad is fine on my 5S - but, the bug you mention has happened to be randomly on iOS9 (sometimes requiring a reboot to fix!).

Has also happened on my old iPhone 4 on iOS8, so it's not exactly an uncommon bug.

Not yet happened on iOS10 for me though.

Slightly off topic, but I've noticed something odd a few times on my 5S since I updated to iOS 10. My screen will half dim after a period of activity. Touching the screen won't bring it back to life, and nor will touching the home button. I have to touch the on/off button to make the screen completely black then the home button starts working as normal and it comes back to life.
I assume it's a software problem rather than hardware. The most recent update was an iTunes update, not OTA.
