iOS 10 Messages App: Keep Messages setting

Hi folks, I have my messages synced across all of my iDevices which is great accept that Messages takes up a large chunk of storage space on my low storage capacity iPad.

Does the Keep Messages option under Settings/Messages/Keep Messages affect messages on all of my decices, or only the device that I change that setting on?

I want to be able to have older messages removed from my iPad (to free up space) while retaining them on my iPhone.

Unless you changing the option on one device somehow changes it on the other ones then it should only apply to the particular device you changed it on.
