I don't own an iPhone 4s, but what I found surprising was that they kept the iPad 2 and iPod touch 5, both with A5 chips with 512MB RAM, but not the 4s? Is it possible they thought the screen is too small to use the new features?

They didn't keep the iPad 2.

What? That's amazing. The iPad 2 has now survived iOS 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and now 10. Insane.

They probably forgot to update it.
Possibly, but they need to explain this. I'm also disappointed about no dark mode or iMessage for Android.

I know, that's 6 and half years of support if iOS 11 finally drops it.

I think it's a website error, there is no way they continue support for A5 devices.

And even if they did, why the iPod Touch 5th gen and not the iPhone 4s ? I mean they have the exact same hardware compared to iPad 2 and iPad mini which have 1GHz CPU instead of the 800MHz found in the iPhone 4s/iPod Touch 5th gen.

4s was dropped probably since it's the last iOS device with a <4" display.

I'm honestly surprised that it's the only device dropped. Kind of expecting iOS 10 to drop all A5 devices for now since it's been a pattern for iOS 6 and iOS 9 (every 3 years) to retain compatibility for all devices from the previous iOS release.

Apple has updated the page and the iPad 2 and iPod touch 5 are removed from the list.

The website's been updated to show that all A5/X devices have been dropped. This lines up with their keynote slide.
