For the past 4 weeks, I've had synching issues between iOS 11.1 on my MacBook Air M1 and my iPhone 11 Pro and iPad non-Apple apps like WhatsApps, Reddit, Meetup, etc. After synching my iPhone 11 Pro with Big Sur on the MacBook Air M1, the non-Apple apps do not work; clicking on the icon makes the app disappear. Also, cannot erase or download that app or any non-Apple apps from the Apps store. I am able to reset the iPhone and iPad and do a backup from the MacBook Air to solve the problem at least until I reconnect the iPhone or iPad to the MacBook and sync which causes all the non-Apple apps on these devices to crash.

I've escalated to Apple Care but their solution was to purchase another MacBook which I did. With the new MacBook, I manually downloaded all Apps from the App Store and iCloud in order to avoid any possible inflection from the previous MacBook Air. For my iPad, I did the same manual download and restore process. Yet, I still am getting the same crashing of non-Apple apps on my mobile devices after synching with the new MacBook Air.

Anyone else experienced or are experiencing the same?

I am having the same issue. Syncing my iPhone 12 or my old iPhone 6 kills all apps downloaded from the App Store, including apps from Apple like "Apple Support" or "Garageband". Starting an app shows the splash / loading screen, then the App crashes. Uninstalling or trying to install new apps fails. Only a reset of the iPhone gets it working again until I try to sync, at which point everything starts failing again.

Using the same phones syncing to an Intel based MBP or a PC with iTunes has no problems. Only my 2020 M1 based MBP is having this issue.

I opened a support case with Apple. Awaiting a "Senior Advisor" to call me back.

I've been scouring forums and Twitter, and found at least 3 or 4 other people having the same issues, and at least one person who confirmed they are not having the issue on their M1 Mac. Seems to be happening on all of the M1 devices (Mini, Air, MBP) but looks like it's not affecting everyone so far.

Hello, I just sent you a PM to reference my case number when talking with your Senior Advisor. It also references another case that is similar.

Also, are you running Big Sur 11.0 or 11.1 on all your non-M1 MacBooks? I'm trying to determine if it is a Big Sur or an M1 specific issue. Thanks!

Thanks tennis_lover. I gave the Apple Advisor your case number and they linked my case to yours, gathered some diagnostic information from my M1 Mac, and escalated the issue to Engineering. I'm currently waiting to hear back from Engineering, which they said would take at least a few days. I'll send you my case number in a PM as well, just in case.

2020 M1 MBP - macOS 11.1 - Has the issue.
2014 Intel MBP - macOS 11.1 - Does not have the issue.
