IOS 11.2 b4 no camera shutter sound?

Using the iPhone SE on iOS 11.2 b4. Suddenly noticed this morning that there is no camera shutter sound. All other sounds (app sounds, keypad clicks, lock sound, etc.) work fine. Mute button is NOT on, live photo is NOT enabled in the camera app, volume is not all the way down.

Did I miss something or is this perhaps a beta 4 bug?

It was there on my SE too until this morning.

I had not restarted it when I created this thread... didn't want to lose the battery stats until the next full charge.

So just now I restarted it and the shutter sound is still missing. ALL other sounds are working.

I thought the shutter sound was configurable but I can't find the setting anywhere.... did it just get accidentally turned off somewhere?

I have recently (like within the last couple days) used the mute switch, shot a video, taken a panorama. Trouble is that I don't recall exactly the last time I heard the shutter sound.

With mute and Live Photo being off, the only thing I can think of at this point is that maybe your phone is connecting to Bluetooth and playing the sound over that. Happens to me a lot with my sound bar in my living room.

Nope. It is only paired to my car and my earpiece.... and both are off. The BT icon is a BT icon, not a headset. Good guess though.... I have had that exact issue on my Windows phone.

Just discovered something additional.... on app close / relaunch the camera app does not reset to "photo" from any other mode regardless of the state of the "preserve settings" toggle. I know this (as well as the shutter sound) used to work as expected on 11.1.x so maybe it is just a beta thing.

I figured out why there was no camera shutter sound... and my face is red

I mis-understood the settings option and thought the volume buttons controlled both media volume AND ringtones at the same time. They are controlled separately, and the media level was set to zero. I discovered this when I tried to stream some audio and there was.... none. Turned the media volume up and the shutter sound is back too. I guess the shutter sound is considered "media" and controlled separately from the system sounds like the lock and keypad sounds (which always worked).
