iOS 11.3 Beta on iPhone 6??? Who's done it?

I have an iphone 6 that's been in IOS 9.3.2 and working great. I've always hit cancel on the update button and never have updated. I don't know what happened, but the other day the screen says "Verifying update"! I don't know how or why this happened. I was going to do a hard reset, but was afraid I might brick the phone. After 45 min of rebooting on it's own etc, (Takes a while to upgrade from ios 9 to 11.2.5 I guess), the phone upgraded!

I've been using a few days and like the new features, but not for the trade in performance that I lost! Simple things like clicking on texts in the messages screen now hang! And stuff is just slower and it's annoying! My phone was find before!

Question, has anyone on iphone 6 on 11.2.5 tried the latest 11.3 beta. Is it quicker???

Also, I was told if I have a backup (which I do on my computer and backed up when ios 9 was on it) can I restore it back to IOS 9 again?

You can't.

Don't know about the latest beta so can't comment on that.

I'm running iOS 11.3 beta 2 on a 6S... no major issues... battery is good, but not great.

As far as going back to iOS 9.x, it's not possible, as Apple is no longer signing it.

Backups don't change the OS version. They simply restore your data to the version already on the device. (If they're compatible)

Yes. That’s how restore works.
Someone could’ve told you to download tvOS profile and put on your phone to prevent the nag window from showing up for up to a year (not sure what would happen for an expired certificate). But it’s way too late. Anyway, let’s hope iOS 11.3 does a better job.

Yes... the iOS itself is not "backed up". You can get the firmware on the interwebs, and get it installed, but you will not be able to get it activated... that's where the Apple "signing" process occurs. Basically, you cannot get "there" from "here".

Thank you, thanks to everyone else for chiming in. This just sucks. I had a good phone that worked great for me on IOS 9. Now I have a phone that feels useless to me that I want to throw against a wall now, due to this lagging. It's just not fair. I swear I didn't say Yes to the update, but apple is wrong for doing this. They should offer a specific firmware for older phones if the software they build can't be run properly on older phones! Like how windows won't let you install it on an out of date computer!

I just saw that 11.2.6 just came out. I wonder if updating to that might fix my lag issues? Does that ever work to fix issues eventhough the update is just to fix that text character bug?

The version that is rumored to fix lag issue is iOS 11.3. iOS 11.2.6 does not fix the lag. But you can update anyway cause it fixes an annoying text bug.

Apple has been doing planned obsolescence on their devices for years. You shouldn’t have upgraded past iOS 9. iOS 11 is a release which runs horrible on any device bar the iPhone 8 and iPhone X.

My iOS 11 runs normally on my device. iPhone 6s Plus. I would not say great but not bad enough to prevent me from using the device.

Exactly what I mean. It doesn't run iOS 11 great. When iOS 12 comes out it will run worse than before. iOS 10 was better than iOS 11 and so on. It's nothing but planned obsolescence. When iOS 13 comes out your 6s Plus will become unusable.

That's what I'm saying. WHY is it even allowed. You can't install ios 11 on a 5, you should be allowed to on a 6, etc,.

1. Feedback to Apple
2. Create your own hardware/software company and make your own rules
3. Go to Android and not havee the issue because you rarely even get an update.

Life is not fair, and this has Apple has rolled, AFAIK, from the beginning.

OP, you seemed to have missed (or ignored?) this reply but I think it’s something you should really consider.

If your iPhone 6 battery is getting old (which I think it is considering you were running a 2+ years old OS), your performance will be affected to avoid unexpected shutdowns.

You can disable this throttling on iOS 11.3 so if you can’t stand the lag anymore you might want to try the beta and see if it gets better.
