Hey folks,

since iOS 11.3 i've had at least a dozen cases where my iPhone X called or texted people out of my pocket. I thought that maybe I forgot to lock the phone after using it so that my leg touches the screen and performs actions, but today at work my phone called several people even though I know definitely that I hadn't used the phone for an hour and a half by that time (not even glanced at the clock or anything - strict no phone policy at work).

I can't quite figure out what happens - whether the power button gets accidentally pressed so siri gets activated and misinterprets ambient noise, or whether face ID wrongfully unlocks the phone from my pocket or whatever else it is. But it only happened since 11.3 for me.

Anybody with similar experiences?

You may be accidentally tapping on a missed call notification while the phone is in your pocket. By default this returns the call without asking for Face ID. You can disable this in Settings, under “Passcode”.

By chance, were these calls made to people who you actually missed calls from? If they are, you can disable it from Settings>FaceID & Passcode>Return missed calls>Off

Thanks for the hints, I‘ll turn that off. But I didn’t have any „fresh“ missed calls from them since it was early Saturday morning and there shouldn’t have been unread notifications left.

I have had all iPhones since 3G and each and every one of them have made calls from my pocket, no matter how locked down they where. It doesn’t matter that I have that missed call autodial and every other options from a locked screen turned off. They always find a way...

Do you have said people set as emergency contacts? My iPhone X seems to always call my emergency contacts while in my pocket.

Possibly “Auto Call” feature in SOS
Disabling auto call wont fix the issue. I‘ve had auto call off since 11.0 and I still regulary call an emergency contact due to being used to having my hand in the pocket my phone is in.

They actually are! You might be up to something!

I've been experiencing this since getting my iPhone X and solved it by going to Health.app, Medical ID, taping Edit on the top right and making sure 'Show When Locked' is unchecked. Since doing that I haven't been accidentally calling emergency contacts in my pocket.

I might try this (cause as it stands I call my parents at least once a day due to the emergency feature) but it defeats the purpose of the medical ID feature. I know paramedics who say it‘s one of the best iOS features ever if kept up-to-date.
Already disabled auto call cause I think I‘ll never need it but you never know.

If you have:
1) iPhone X
or 2) Apple Watch
and
3) the devices on iOS 11
and
4) 'emergency contact' enabled

Make sure that you don't do anything secret. A simple accidental press on the buttons of your Apple Watch will call your emergency contact and send your location to them. You may also call 911 or whatever emergency number of your country.

And in my own experience, the iPhone X is much much worse in accidental calls due to the Tap to Wake function. If you always unlock your phone and call people by accident, disable it. Also, disable the raise to wake function.

I totally agree! I really don't want to disable the Emergency Contacts call feature, but at least in my case, one of my parents lives abroad and each time were called during off hours their time :(. I really hope Apple refines this feature in future releases, I've already submitted my feedback about this here.
