I've just returned to iPhones with an X and the major thing that's hit me is how dreadful the App Store is. It looks like it's been designed in a nursery school and finding new innovative apps is incredibly difficult. It just seems to promote cheap simple games.

I used to look at the store to see what is new and what is well rated. Since IOS 11 the only thing I ever go to it for is updates. Don't look at the store anymore.

This is my biggest gripe with the App Store: all these old reviews instead of the latest reviews first.
I really don't understand how Apple allowed this to happen. It seems so fundamental. The Google Play Store is an absolute joy to browse in comparison.

The Google Play store is an absolute disaster full of scamware, malware and other dangerous stuff. I've heard a lot of complaints about the UX too.

Personally I think the App Store works great in iOS 11 and is a huge improvement over what we previously had. I never really liked the last major refresh.

Totally agree. The kindergartenesque layout is awful, and it is hard to search for new apps. I explore and download less apps than I used to because it’s so poor.

I doesn't look dreadful, it looks really pretty.

It's just that it only ever shows ancient apps that have already been successful and known for years.

And no the Play Store is pure poison. Just the amount of obvious non-functional scam apps allowed on there makes me sick.

Hmmmm clearly they’re doing something right as the App Store follows the new design of Apple Music and Apple news which are both extremely liked and popular (hence all of iOS 11 adopting the same design elements).

The App Store is doing exactly what it needs to do....feature apps, provide stories and help us find good apps. It was a mess before with many really good apps being buried. The App Store became a beast that needed to be reigned in. Editorial is EXACTLY what is needed and that’s what they’ve done. Especially in today’s world, editorial is key. Too much fake everything including apps, have become all too common while all the good (on many subjects) is harder to find.

The App Store is now a desitation, like music, news. I check it daily now just for some tips, great apps, stories. It’s very well done. I’m by no means a novice user and Apple making things quicker, easier and more featured makes my digital life a little bit better. Why argue with that?

If all this makes everyone so upset.....have fun on Android where you can geek out and customize everything to your hearts content.

Yeah wonderful. But it doesn’t help me find new apps. It is more difficult to use and only leads me to the top few favoured apps.

What is the huge improvement?

Since the new design I stopped opening the app store to look for apps. I decided it's easier to be content with the apps that I have than to look for new apps. Especially the review system is rediculous, but also quickly browsing for productivity apps became a nuisance that I just don't want to figure out.

I hate the new design language for News, Music, Videos, App Store. I loved the translucency, especially the Musics app now playing screen. All white UI’s look terrible, especially when your in well lit areas and especially when you’re outside.
