iOS 11 Dock - Recently Opened

Are there preferences to turn off this feature? I already have my most frequently opened apps on the new dock and having the most 'recently opened' is redundant. I end up with two of each app on the dock. It's kind of silly, there should be an option to turn it off.

I don't want to remove my most used apps from the dock either cause the 'recently opened' only shows the 3 most recent.

I haven't downloaded iOS 11 yet but I'm surprised they didn't implement this feature so that it only shows the 3 most recent apps that *aren't* already in the dock. That makes so much more sense to me in terms of usability and means more chances you don't have to go to the home screen to do split-view etc...

There isn’t an option to turn it off. Worth noting that it also houses continuity apps too. Completely agree with jcphoenix that is shouldn’t replicate apps already in the dock. If you put an app in the dock you presumably already know where it is. Something smarter than “3 most recent - Continuity) would be good too. Siri suggestions certainly used to do a decent job for me at certain times of the day suggesting relevant apps.

Take this with a grain of salt, but from my experience with beta 2 it does not seem to put apps in the recents that are already in the dock anymore. And for some reason the YouTube app stays in the recents even though I have used several other non-dock apps, maybe it also factors in latest played media now? Either way the behavior seems to have changed

The same amount, 13. The right side of the dock disappears in this mode but it will resize dynamically for continuity apps.

That's promising to hear...hope it is indeed the case that they changed the behaviour. I'm likely waiting for the second or third public beta before installing to test (assuming I'm able to hold out that long) as I want to make sure I don't kill the battery on my new iPad .
