I’m on the latest ios beta on my ipad and I’ve noticed that local storage is no longer present in Locations tab.
Is this a bug or Apple intentionally removed it?

Not sure if I'm wording this correctly, but based on what I've read: It seems you have to save something to Files via the share sheet before that location tab shows up. Then you should be able to view its contents.

When I try to share something to Files, the “Add” button corresponding to the local storage is greyed out.

You can’t save to the root of the local storage. Has to be a sub folder.

Edit: and before we cross that bridge, no, you can’t create a folder in there.

If files app dont change and stay the same as now on the final release, its not really useful. I tried to save videos on iCab mobile to the file app and it didnt work. Just shortcut who open icab when i touch them. Also, OneDrive, Google Drive etc is not well integrated so far. It just open a sub windows with your files on it and if it is a video it need to download each time you want to view it.

I hope this app will improve when the final release of iOS 11 comes.

The reason those apps are pop ups is because 3rd party app developers can’t release their apps written against the new APIs until iOS 11 is released. When it is, and those versions of the apps are released, they will look and work just like iCloud does in the Files app.

What about going in iOS 11's photos app and then sharing it to Files app for local storage? Will that work to then show local storage in Files? Is there missing steps required in iOS 11's settings or we're just missing something?

If you have an existing folder in there that will work.

We’re not missing anything but the release of iOS 11 and the update of apps that use that local space. I think it was usable for apps have that “On my iWhatever” places like Documents by Readdle, Pixelmator and Transmit in the early betas but was abstracted to newer APIs later. The “saving to an existing folder” is a workaround to make it appear in the meantime but actual iOS 11 apps should make it useful.

In one of the Betas, an option to access OS X Server Files showed, but did not work at that time. Is that active now? Can you access your OS X Server files form the Files App?

For me, this Files app on iPhone is practically useless. I cannot put anything in, cannot create any folder, cannot see “on my iPhone” in Files app.
Doubt they will open it for iPhone.

The problem is that the Files App is almost entirely driven by APIs added in iOS 11. So 3rd party cloud storage doesn't integrate with it (Dropbox/etc) like it should, which will help when updated apps start trickling out after the GM is available. And no apps in the Store "activate" the local storage yet, and I suspect many won't. The local storage is very similar to iTunes File Sharing support iOS has had for years now. The difference is you don't need iTunes to poke around the App's documents folder anymore, but the App needs to activate support still.

If no apps support it are present, it won't show up. I can confirm it shows up in the latest beta with an app I've been putting together that does activate it.
