I just installed the Golden Master on my SE (ie. what is going to be released to the public) and it's become as glitchy as hell. The Home Screen animations aren't smooth anymore. There's weird pauses, even when doing something simple like typing a text. Even opening folders is longer a smooth experience.

I've seen this sort of thing as iPhones age, but never quite so sudden. It's like they didn't bother at all to ensure that things continued to run smoothly on the SE -- even though it's still a phone Apple are selling.

It's grim and very disappointing :(

ios11 GM doesn't run very well on my device... i'm sure there will be patches soon. but in my opinion people should definitely wait with this update. (which is something i never said with any previous updates)

i have alot of weird problems with whatsapp and anything that involves audio streaming. (bluetooth streaming in the car, AirPods and also Airplay...)

no performance or battery issues though. (iphone 7)

They've had a lot of work to do making a very different version for the iPhone X plus all the changes with iPad and all the usual little tweaks and device specific versions they always have to do - expect it to run poorly on all but the newest devices until a later point release when they've been able to optimise it for all devices...

I would say 11 runs decently on the SE but the animations and other things, like you stated, are definitely slower. I downgraded to 10.3.3 on mine while I had the chance and am planning to jump back on the iOS 11 train when a patch (0.2 or .1) comes out.

I'll be staying on 10.3.3 until 11.3 at least. No new features for me and it's buggy and slow on my spare iPhone 6 which is just unacceptable for me. Installed tvOS 11 profile so that I'm not distracted by OTA prompts.

Good plan! Thank goodness I still have time. I'd rather have a smooth experience than new features.

I've got no issues at all on my SE with iOS 11 on it - it's as smooth and fast as it ever was (my daughter has an SE with 10 on it and I've just done a side by side comparison to confirm) and everything works perfectly. I didn't put any of the earlier betas on it and did an OTA update from the latest 10.x to the 11 GM

That's interesting! I did the same update as you. No betas. I'm wondering if you're actually having a different experience to me, or if some people don't notice glitches as much as others? Sometimes the animation is fast and smooth, but about 1 in 10 animations stutter and jerk. It's random, too. The first time you do an animation (say, open a folder) it may stutter, but when you repeat it, it will be smooth. You really notice it if you've restarted your phone.

I'm noticing it a lot and I really hate it :(

I have been running iOS 11 public betas on a 64 GB SE since version 3 and had no major issues, apart from a somewhat shorter battery life. Once you install the GM, it is a good idea to let it “settle”, as it indexes stuff on your iPhone, etc. People on these forums advise to wait for 42-72 hours, depending on your device’s setup. You will not experience the speed of 10.3.3 until Apple fine-tune iOS 11 further in future updates, yet it already should work quite well on an SE.

Interestingly, the more I'm using my phone I'm noticing the stuttering less. Could it be cacheing animations or something?

Edit: Or as @one more suggests, was it indexing things in the background? Causing everything to stutter?

Edit edit: Hmm. It's still here, although MAYBE not as bad. Even just scrolling up and down the left most Home Screen page (where your notifications, reminders, etc. are) is jerky. Not good

Yeah I agree with you 100%, I'm just waiting for 11.x firmware because I like my phone being as quick as possible :)

When I was on 11 GM I kept performing animations and other stuff on the phone just like you to the point where I wasn't using it as my phone :p (even though the animations weren't even that bad). I decided that it would be a good idea to downgrade and wait for a better firmware.

I'm having unsatisfactory experience with iOS 11 GM on an SE also. Overall not bad, but definitely not as smooth as 10.3.3. Only problem is that I upgraded my AW to WatchOS 4, which requires iOS 11. Found this out when I downgraded my SE to 10.3.3 and then my had to re-upgrade to get my AW to work.

It should be fine on the SE, the A9 chip is still a beast for today’s standards.

I agree about the slow animations though, that’s a problem on my 7+

Yeah, if the 7 and SE are both getting that kinda of performance while both of them still have monster processors for smartphone-standards it must be optimization issues. Android vibes tbh

i've experienced some bumps in the road during the public beta process, but right now, my SE is running beautifully (full disclosure: i've always had 'reduce motion' on....).

Could you link me to where you got the tvOS 11 profile? I'm going to try to keep my iPhone 7 on 10.3.3 permanently.

That’s a pain to hear. I really want WatchOS 4. I was just about to downgrade, too. Thanks for the heads up.

Is there anyone here running iOS 11 on an iPhone 6s...what's it like performance-wise?

My 6s is doing all the same things honestly. My 7 Plus and iPad pro are not. So it's a little weird. It feels like iOS 11 was made a bit hastily. That could just be my opinion though.

Other posters have mentioned other devices and there wasn't any point in creating a whole new thread.

Thanks for your input though

still seems ridiculous. like posting about itunes on a thread about office (or, as another example, about the 6S on a thread about the SE)...
