Lets say I am in an app which does not support slideover, such as Google’s Inbox.

Imagine I have dragged iMessages onto Inbox so it hovers over Inbox.

Imagine I then switch to safari

If I then hit iMessage in the dock, it brings me back to Inbox with iMessage hover, instead of IMessage in full screen.

How do I make the hover iMessage go away in this situation?

Right now, I have to close all apps in order to get rid of iMessage hover over Inbox.

Can the iPad somehow know if I hit an app in the dock I want full screen?

I am on IPP 9.7

Thank you very much.

I have not got the beta so not sure. But if you flick the slide over message off the screen, I think that should do the trick.

Thank you for replying but that doesn’t do the trick

Well, it actually half does the trick.

when I go back to icon view and then hit iMessage it does full screen , but if you do it from multi tasking view or dock view, which is what I was trying, it doesn’t work.

Glib answer: You stop using apps like Google Inbox that can’t be bothered to support basic features coming up on two full iOS versions.

Serious answer: As you say, there appears to be no way to do it right now. You have to return to the home screen first because accessing multi-tasking or the dock just slides the app back over. Even if Inbox did support split view you’d have to put the slideover in split and then make it 0 width, which is rather roundabout

Tl;dr version. Right now, you can’t.
