I was baffled when people said they couldn't answer messages from the lockscreen on the 5S and 6, and having the 6, I was disappointed to see that they were right. It only let me answer messages once, which is strange. Is this permanent or temporary?

You should be able to answer messages from the lock screen. Long press on the message notification.

I tried, but didn't work. A glitch maybe?

Yeah, probably. Try a restart and if that doesn't work do a reset of settings (not content and settings, just settings). One of those will likely clear it up.
