Anyone noticing the massive battery drain and phone heating up on iOS11?

iOS 11 phone heating up and battery drain

Need more detailed info. Are they kids playing battleship in a bathtub with the phone??

No just browsing safari and listening to music for 30 min for this sample size of 1. phone got hot and dropped 20%.
Any photo indexing going on that people have experienced?

I have a SE. I had battery drain during beta but now is much better. No heating up in my side.
Put it on the charger, connect it to wifi and leave it alone for 4-8 hours. And close all the apps that are running in the background.
I created an account to provide some info which will hopefully help us shed some light on the subject, cause I’m at least reasonably confident there’s some issue, even if it’s not widespread. I’ve been lucky enough to have not seen behaviour like this in all my years using iOS.
I’m using a 6S Plus and while it doesn’t have amazing battery (it’s been used daily for two years), it usually gets me through the day ok. I installed the GM a week ago (never installed the beta versions) and saw alarming battery drain right away. Thought little of it at the time, new OS and all that, just topped the battery up as required. But a week later it’s still very bad and I’m beginning to learn its pattern a little.
For the purposes of this issue, the phone in general seems to be in one of two states. It’s either normal temp and battery drain is normal or it’s hot and the battery is draining like crazy. It seems to go into the latter state maybe a couple of times a day, on average, but from what I’ve observed I feel like use of the phone can somehow trigger it to go into the draining state. Last few days it happened right away in the morning having been charging overnight. Today, it started before it was even plugged out. By the time I got to work yesterday (maybe an hour later), battery had gone from 100% to between 20 and 40% and it suddenly stopped acting out shortly before I got there. (First thought was that it happened when not on WiFi, but the problem started while I was still connected to it and stopped even though I don’t use WiFi at work). You can easily feel the temperature of the phone change fairly quickly when the problem starts/stops.
When the battery isn’t in this rapidly draining state, all is fine. And this is the way it is most of the time. But it only takes a small amount of time in it’s hot state for it to drain a lot. I haven’t been able to connect the behaviour with any particular app. If it is the fault of any app in particular, the battery stats aren’t alluding to that. Can only guess it’s some process not reported there.
Sure, it’s possible my battery took a hissy the very day I installed iOS11 and it’s not related but for now I don’t think that’s the most likely situation. Especially with the other reports. Also I can go through the battery without seeing the problem from time to time and during those runs it’s like there’s no issue at all.
Maybe others can watch the behaviour they’re seeing and comment as to whether they see similarities or not. I’ll try observe it’s behaviour and learn more. Won’t have a lot of time to try various experiments outside of typical use, but me know if there’s anything I should look out for or do.

Thanks you have some excellent points here. I wonder if they designed ios11 more for the new A10s and ups with the big little processors. But maybe not as some 7 users are reporting it as well. very odd
My 6s+ got hot during the upgrade to iOS11 and I kept it plugged in for an hour and now its not hot anymore.

Yes, I have the same. Battery drains fast and phone is hot. So I guess it’s stuck in some kind of loop. I have an iPhone 6S
Running hot with a fast battery drain is common around patches and upgrades. An app gets into some kind of loop and chews CPU. Often authentication. Sometimes a restart is enough, but sometimes when the same app tries to do the same thing it goes back into it's loop. You'll see people log out / reenter their credentials on apps that authenticate to resolve the issue (or reinstall the app which should be overkill). Mail, Facebook, iCloud stuff, anything that phones home, anything that reaches out with credentials.
Instead of guessing you might be able to determine what process via battery usage or an app that shows processes, but generally folks go to xcode to figure out what's going on.

Heating up was a big problem for me in Public Beta 2 (I think it was 2... could have been 3), but did a hard reset, connected to power and on wifi and just let it sit. Didn't happen again. You may just be dealing with substantial indexing issues.
