iOS 11 wifi and Bluetooth toggle control center rant....

God damn it I just want to toggle my Bluetooth and wifi to ACTUALLY turn on and off. Not some dumb idle toggle or some automatic connect toggle bull.... some folks are just in out of their heads. Can we PLEASE revert back to the simple functionality of on and off inputs, maybe adding a long press on the wifi toggle functionality for this simple yet VERY necessary function. There’s no need to have taken one step back in a technologically leading world like this....

So having to look into alternatives got me some good feedback. Apparently, for anybody who has the same problem, you may simply ask Siri to turn on/off for you. You might want to lower your volume before hand otherwise you get looks in public from Siri confirming your request..... anyway rant over and I hope they fix this useless change.... however I don’t mind the visual aesthetics of it....

I think the battery impact is so small that it’s rarely, if ever, worth turning them off completely.

The behavior has not changed in DP4. The control center toggles for wi-fi and bluetooth do NOT turn off the radios, they merely disconnect the phone from any wi-fi hotspot and most bluetooth devices. (The BT toggle does not disconnect from an Apple Watch.)

I agree that this is not intuitive behavior. It is fine as default behavior, I guess, but there should be more options available via 3D Touch.

When I turn it off from control center the Bluetooth icon disappears from the bar up top. I can go to settings and see that it’s still “on” but it’s not searching for any info to connect to unless I tap one of the items in my list of devices.

This has been mentioned several times in the beta discussion thread but I still can’t figure out why anyone is concerned whether they’re off or not.

It’s got almost no effect on battery life.

On my iPhone 7, a long hold does nothing special. A 3D Touch anywhere in the radio CC pane brings up a larger pane with 6 toggles instead of the original 4 and with text labels with a bit more information. The 2 extra toggles are for AirDrop and connection sharing.

Edited to add: On my iPad Air 2 (no 3D Touch), a long hold mimics the 3D Touch on the iPhone 7, bringing up the larger pane, although it's a wifi model, so there are no extra data toggles to show.

When do you usually use your control panel to turn off WiFi? If you're like me, you do it when you're out and about and connected to a public WiFi hotspot (like xfinitywifi) that is close enough to connect to, but too far to give you reliable service. You grumble and turn off WiFi and keep using your cellular connection.

Now it will turn auto-join off for that network so this annoyance won't happen again, but you can eventually rejoin your home WiFi automatically without having to remember to turn it back on.

You can think of the WiFi button in control center as being "Turn off *THIS* WiFi network."

I can think of few cases where I've needed to completely turn off the WiFi radio, and if I still do, you can still do it in settings.

For me it disconnects from my Watch and Bluetooth stays on, but in Settings it says "Not Connectable".

I hate this new feature in iOS 11. When my roommate leaves the house it connects to his car (because I’ve connected to it before). A 3D Touch option should be able to turn it off fully but nope. Maybe iOS 11.1.

I’ve showed this to many people and they’re not too happy about it. Many said they’ll avoid iOS 11 until it gets reverted or a 3D Touch option.

This is the only thing I dislike about iOS 11, I even dropped my jailbreak for it (something I’ve done since iOS 4). Can’t believe I’d go back to stock but iOS 11 implemented most of the features I liked from jailbreaking and iPhone X adds pretty much the only one I’m missing now, gestures (Tage tweak).

Some say it’s probabaly fine that it doesn’t use up as much battery as I think it does but since I’m using an iPhone 5s I have limited battery capacity so saving every drop of juice is pretty much my everyday religion.

If your two WiFi routers have disparate but known SSIDs, it should connect to the other automatically.

If they both have the same SSID your device would have no way of knowing the SSID was a different router.

I actually agree with the OP on this. I always use wifi at home, but will always shut it (and bluetooth) down when I'm out and about, without fail, and turn them on again when I come home. I was dismayed to find that the toggle doesn't turn it off from the Control Centre. I think the user should have as much freedom as possible to decide how to run one's own phone. When I shut wifi or bluetooth down from the Control Centre, I expect it to be shut down - I don't expect Apple to go ahead and override that decision by putting me on some other wifi network as soon I turn my back. I think having to go in and out of settings each time is a step backwards, and I'm not happy with it.

That's just it; those buttons no longer do that so your expectations are now improper.

Perhaps Apple will add an option in the future, but this is like when Apple changed the side switch on iPads to be mute from rotation lock.

The thing is, this is functionality that simply didn't exist before, so I welcome it wholeheartedly. I may have switched off BT or WiFi perhaps monthly if that before, but I have used the new toggle about six times over the past week to disassociate from WiFi routers in stores that were either slow or that had no connectivity whatsoever.

Of course, they are *always* right. You don't need a bigger screen than 3.5", a round mouse is smart, You're Holding It Wrong, Touch ID is the best solution...

They'll flip it back and call it "magical".
