I usually update only when major updates are released (12.*), but since this 12.1.4 update comes with the FaceTime security patch, I decided to update.

So it's been 2 days since I updated, but I'm already noticing a big improvement in battery life (iPhone X, 100% battery health), and when I say improvement, I mean easily +1.5 hours more than what I was getting with 12.1!

On the other hand, I feel that the phone is a little bit slower, not by much, but I can definitely notice that it's slower launching apps.

Did anyone notice a similar behaviour?

Is the Wifi better? Last update my wifi would not work on the X. It wasn't reliable/consistent.
Didn't notice any difference in wifi (but the router is located in my room, and the campus is full of wifi hotspots, so I can't really tell if there is any difference at all).

similar, meaning changed, after updating to 12.1.4.

i'm on a 6s.

i had never experienced the dreaded message (paraphrased) about yr device needing to be throttled to prevent sudden shutdown.
but in the 48 hours after updating, i have gotten the message now twice.
i had never received this message before 12.1.4.

so yes, something overtly has definitely changed about battery.

of course its easy to jump to the conclusion that apple is really forcing 6s users to finally upgrade to a newer device.
but i won't go there.

It may simply be that your battery needs replacement.

yes. which would be the 3rd time.
1st time: i had it replaced by apple before the widely publicized battery replacement program
2nd time: i had it again replaced while under the replacement program

battery health is always being stated at 86%. always at 86%. even just after a few days of each replacement. and even now.

the 86% is clearly a managed figure by apple.
apple purports to 85% or under indicating battery replacement is helpful.

no sudden shutdowns before. not once.
but now within 48 hours of updating to 12.1.4, two times.

yes. coincidence.

If it's always 86% even after replacement, let alone multiple replacements, sounds like something is off somewhere with the device. (Apple treats under 80% as an indicator of needing replacement.)

Something is wrong with your 6S hardware wise. I had the first battery replaced after two years of use and coconut battery rated it at 92%(Apple said 94%). Apple replaced the battery at the end of November and it's still showing 100% capacity.. I've never had the phone shut down or throttle since new.
