It's good that Apple decided to continue allowing devices back to the iPhone 5s to continue to get past device activation but I wonder what this means for even older model devices past January 2027?

For example, I still have a working iPhone 5c and iPhone 4s sitting around as novelty/collectors items. Are their certificates also going to expire soon such that if a reset or restore is performed after January 2027 they won't be able to be activated anymore and will be bricked? I can understand no longer supporting Apple services on really old devices, but hopefully there will be equivalent updates for all older Apple devices to allow basic device activation to continue.

This update is awesome. I still sometimes use an old 5s and like to respond to iMessages and take some FaceTime calls when I’m in a different part of the house without my main iPhone.

It means that FaceTime and iMessage after January 2027 won’t work for 32bit devices hence why the update is there for 64bit devices
