since upgrading my phone to iOS12, all contacts have a strange tag under the name.

This wasn’t here before, and it seems to be a settings option.

Anyone know how to make it disappear ?

You do not happen to have a new phone with the dual SIM and tested something? That is about the only thing I could think of, given some of the guidance on the second screenshot.

New phone - (XS Max) but not a dual sim version.

Actually, I think you’re correct.
There’s option to add an additional mobile network so perhaps it is dual sim.

It is an eSIM for the second SIM. Only China has two physical SIMs. Not sure how to remove it now though.
