I got a new iPhone 6s Plus and went to restore from a backup of the same user of an iPhone 5s. Well the restore could not happen because the iPhone 5s had a more current OS than the iPhone 6s Plus. So, I upgraded the iPhone 6s Plus to IOS 14. That was successful.

Then, I restored the iPhone 5s that had four pin key unto the iPhone 6s Plus that had a six pin key. So, the iPhone 6s Plus in not showing in iTunes and I have had one chance to upgrade; however, the Internet was down.

Now, the iPhone 6s Plus upon power on says "press the hone to upgrade" ... nothing happens. How to get it to either upgrade or factory reset. It seems that if it upgrades then I can log in. Also wonder whether the home button is working despite not remembering whether I had pressed the home button during the upgrade process. How to resolve this issue?

Thank you DimaVR for responding ... where I might find approved IPWS file? Since the iPhone was first upgraded to IOS 14, should I get that?

Yes use stock iOS 14 Ipws file once you disable the passcode on the phone iTunes should be able to see the phone and put into dfu mode and flash iOS 14

Where to get the stock iOS 14 Ipws file? Can I use Apple Configuration 2 to flash the firmware? Is the disabling pass code mean holding power button and volume down button down simultaneously for 10sec then release the power button while remain holding down the home until it shows up iTunes Device?

Man, I hold down buttons until me blue either the home or power and home ... all I get is "press home to upgrade. So, I wondered whether the lightening cable has to be original Apple.

Since I have two other iPhone a 5S and a 7; so far, I can put the iPhone 5s in safe mode easily (just to practice). All the iPhone 7 does is made the Apple logo appear (holding down the power and volume down buttons). The iPhone 6s Plus does the same thing as the iPhone 7 when holding down the home and power buttons (make the Apple logo appear). If I am to get a screen like the image below, it hasn't happened yet ...frustrating indeed. I must mention that both iPhone 6 and 7 has IOS 14. I wish I could see what's wrong or what I am doing wrong.

I had visited iFixit earlier as well.

Ok so you get that image which is fine. And you go to iTunes and select IPWS file and click update and than what happens?

It’s just a black screen? On iPhone 6? With no cable.

1. DFU screen is just black?
2. does iTunes detect the phone?
3. Use proper apple cable just in case
4. Ipws file get flashes from iTunes
5. Any error codes in iTunes

How to Put the iPhone 6s and Older Into Recovery Mode
  1. Connect your iPhone to a computer. ...
  2. Press and hold the home and lock buttons as mentioned above.
  3. Keep holding the buttons even once you see the Apple logo.
  4. Release both buttons when you see the Recovery Mode screen.

I don’t know what else to say

NO ... did not get that screen at all. As soon as I plug in the cable into the iPhone 6s Plus, the Apple logo appears ... there is no 8 seconds per the ifixit page. I don't think the phone is powering off.

iPad, iPhone 6s and below, iPhone SE and iPod touch

  1. Connect the device to a computer using a USB cable.
  2. Hold down both the Home button and Lock button.
  3. After 8 seconds, release the Lock button while continuing to hold down the Home button.
    • If the Apple logo appears, the Lock button was held down for too long.

Okay, I was able to get the iPhone 7 in recovery mode ... very tricky indeed. Now on to the iPhone 6s Plus but it's bedtime.

Told ya wasn’t doing it right
I spoke with Apple support today and could demonstrate the issue for them to see via the iPhone 7 camera. Apple made an appointment for Sunday for me to bring the phone in. Thank you DimaVR for you help.

Just to follow up the home button on the iPhone 6s Plus is dead according to Apple store.
