I am sure the exact size depends upon a number of things. In my case, my devices are running iOS 12.4.1.

I assume I’ll need to make space for the update file. I’d rather prepare ahead of time and strategically delete or offload apps.

Does anyone have any idea how much free space will for required for this upgrade?

How much free space do you currently have?

On my phone:~3gb
iPad: 14 gb
I've generally found that you'd want to have in the range of at least 5 GB or more free on devices for updates to go through without potential of trouble.
