This is my first beta testing a new iOs version. Installed iOs 13 on iPhone SE last week. Everything was fine until yesterday. I didn't do anything crazy with it, just used my phone as I normally did (watching YouTube, checking emails). I just put the phone on my desk with 90% battery left at night and pick it up in the morning and it was all black. I tried the following things to revive it:
- Put the phone on the charger for 3 hours
- Pressed the home and sleep/wake button at the same time
- Connect phone to iTunes (mac can't detect phone)
- Tried DFU mode
Nothing works, no reaction from the phone, not even a glimpse of the low battery or apple logo.

Anyone has experienced this before or any other tips except going to the apple store for repair?

Try a different cable, see if you can reset it or access DFU/recovery mode. If not take it to Apple.

Would apple be interested in fixing it if op is running iOS 13? They could use that as an excuse to charge silly money / refuse to fix it?

it does say use iOS 13 beta at your own risk?

AFAIK Since iOS 13 is a public beta, they should still provide service as normal. Of course they may try a downgrade as a troubleshooting step if necessary. Either way a restore would downgrade the device.

Sounds more like your battery died. How long have you had the phone? The SE has a smaller lower capacity battery compared to other larger sized phones. Take it to Apple. Battery replacement is $79 at an Apple genius bar. Probably cheaper at other places if you trust them.

I think it’s been about a year since they stopped not servicing beta software or phones with 3rd party parts.

$49 for an SE battery. They no longer charge $79 since last years discount.

If it’s giving no signs of charge and iTunes isn’t recognizing it at all (even after hard reset and DFU mode, there is a good chance it’s fried.

If the battery were the issue, you’d still get a charge indication when plugged in for some time.

Updating your OS can be taxing on the logic board, and yours may have been close to failing before the update, and the update just pushed it over the edge.

I would take it to Apple, as they have a test they can run to determine if it’s software, the battery, or if it’s fried for good.

How are they going to know it's on iOS 13 if its bricked? lol

Regardless, it's a public beta, I doubt Apple wouldn't fix it, although for all we know the phone did just have a legitimate, random hardware failure, it can't necessarily be attributed to the beta software.

Tried, no sign of life

Just had it for 2 years, also replaced the battery once (throttling program) last year.
The battery was fine before the beta. Yeah will take to Apple, but i think the logicboard or battery fried.

Shouldn’t put betas on your daily driver.

I didn't, SE is my backup phone

Same thoughts, something fried for sure. But will Apple charge you if you only let them test the phone? Since I don't have Apple care and the warranty is already expired.

Apple will troubleshoot your phone for free at an Apple Store genius bar. Just make sure you take it to an Apple Store and not an Apple Authorized Repair Service. A repair service will charge for testing your phone.

Just got back from apple store. They just tried the following methods to wake the phone up: put on charger, hardreset and connecting to itunes. No sign of life. So they said it is not the battery or charging port are defect, most likely something fried inside. They won't send it in for repair, the only option is to buy a new SE for 2088 hkd (268 usd), which is absolutely not worth it. I will try to fix the phone myself.

Were you ever able to fix it? If not, I feel for you. Similar thing happened to me when I updated my 4s back in the day. Nobody was able to fix it, sold it for $20 for parts.

one of the stores in Shenzhen iphone market will probably be able to repair it for $10

Got it fixed in a local phone shop, for 400 hkd (~51 usd), the Logic board was fried and they fixed it in 4 hours. And to my surprise the battery life is better now. They didnt swap the battery though.
