If you mean the cars instrument panel this is going to be completely down to the car and nothing to do with a version of iOS. My car doesnt do this but we've just had a Renault hire car in France and that did give some details on the car dashboard presumably because Renault have done something to pick it up.

I would really like this on my new VW. I have the digital dash and it would be great if they integrated CarPlay navigation there instead of forcing one to use their crappy navigation. Guess what VW, I don't use yours and never will.

That's interesting, if I use a Samsung Note 4 in my 2018 Acura TLX I get next turn on dashboard. If I use my iPhone X I do not. That led me to believe it was IOS not the car.

It's the car manufacturer. CarPlay has configurable items that the manufacturer is allowed to integrate (low fuel warning, environmental controls, etc.), but up until now, these have been limited to the CarPlay screen for the most part. iOS13 seems to have released more access to what Apple has called a secondary display to show other info.

For my brand new VW, I'm hoping that means music info as well as map info versus a screen that simply states "Apple Car Play" on the dash screen.

My recollection from WWDC is that 3rd screen integration is present in iOS 13 CarPlay. However, it needs to be supported by the OEMs, as evidenced by the following quote from Macstories:

More to Come from Manufacturers
At WWDC, Apple also announced CarPlay support for irregularly-sized in-car screens, second independent screens for spots like between a car’s instrument clusters, and dynamic screen resizing that can adjust to show CarPlay content alongside information from other sources like the car manufacturer’s entertainment system. Manufacturers are generally slow to adopt new technology, but for vehicles released in the future, these additions to CarPlay’s frameworks promise to give carmakers additional flexibility that will open up new ways to implement CarPlay.

The Renault Kadjar hire car we had in France passed navigation instructions from both the built in sat nav and using apple maps via CarPlay to the dashboard next to the speedo. Wasnt much in the way of info other than an arrow pointing which way to go and in how far like the pic below :-

On this one the arrow in a circle with a line through it shows that no navigation is in process.
