Got on iOS 13 last night with Beta 2 and am really enjoying it.

I noticed something within the Messages app. Before you could press the "I" next to the contact and go in and see all the photos you have sent and received sort of saved within the messages app. From there you could save the photo to your camera roll, or delete them one by one. It always bugged me these "copies" of photos were in there as they made your messages storage space quite large.

Each iOS version, I have been hoping for a way to mass select these photos but the option has never came. Now in iOS 13, it appears you can't delete them at all. Anyone else having that issue? I don't know if it's a bug or if they removed the option on purpose.

Plus when I got to my photos in messages, they are not all there (Even when I select all photos.) The message history with my wife has a few thousand photos in there and right now I see maybe 2 dozen of them.

Maybe they are making it so messages doesn't store older photos anymore. Just a few dozen recent ones. I would be all for that.

I use iClould messages and right now it says I have about 8 gigs of messages. I know that is because of the saved photos as text messages themselves don't take up that much space.

I'm wondering if they are indeed removing older photos from messages and my icloud just needs to update.

If the photos within messages are staying, I'd really like more control over them. If they are automatically being purged, I would be ok with that too. I'd just want to save the texts, not the gigs of photos that I have saved elsewhere.

Give it time. Your photos will reappear. It took time for most of them to show up for me.

Thanks. They are all there on my iPad (also on iOS 13) but like a dozen of them appear on my iPhone. Kind of weird. It's like the same exact set of photos everytime I check. No more are flowing in.

I hope they are going to give us the option back to delete them!

Can’t believe they removed it from the iMessage app itself. The one in the settings has never ever on any iOS shown me the correct amount of photos.

For example yesterday I deleted every image from within the settings (on iOS 12) but I still have images in the iMessage conversations itself

Bumping to 13.1 rollout, I can info a thread and painstakingly delete (hold-tap, tap, tap) each photo attachment one at a time. We’ve never been able to delete them all at once, but at least we could quickly tap-select them each quickly and mass-delete. How on earth are we supposed to cleanse our message threads of storage-clogging photos we don’t need it want anymore?

I hear ya. I have never understood why they have continued to make deleted photos embedded iMessage so hard to delete! I was even wondering if some kind of shortcut script could help but I don't think so.
