Waited a week for a fix and nothing. iOS 14 is a joke.
The same exact thing has happened to my iPhone 11. I asked Apple and they said check your side button. Thanks!
But these are the issues I have been experiencing from day 1:

1. When I'm on a phone call and receive an iMessage or text message I am not hearing the sound notification.

2. When I'm on a phone call and typing a message I cannot hear the keyboard clicks.

3. If I go send a picture, screenshot, website link, etc the people that I have conversations with aren't showing up. Instead, I have to click on messages and select the person in my contacts.

4. It happens more often than not but when I close out of the messages app and open up a message the keyboard or memojis don't show up right away. Also, when I close out and open messages back up the search doesn't appear until I move down the screen.

None of those items were listed as being fixed on the release from what I’m aware of?

Is it really that bad? I was holding off on upgrading from 13.7 until a patch of 14.0 was released. Haven't done the upgrade yet, but I don't want to upgrade if there's still a lot of issues. They aren't signing 13.7 anymore so if I go, there's no turning back.

Why would you want to hear all those clicks and sounds while on a phone call?
Yeah, the keyboard sounds seems like kind of an odd one to have while in a call. Notifications are a little different, but perhaps Apple has started to treat those in a similar way and essentially silencing them doing calls so that they wouldn't get in the way.

In this particular case it seems that the complaints about some particular items and not really something overall related to iOS 14.

3. Make sure you have all your location services and restrictions turned on. I feel this has gotten a lot better from iOS 13 actually. I can see it "learning" but here is my recent call list, recent text list and those people are at the top of my share sheet. After that is a contract I generally text in the morning.

Sorry I had to delete so much for privacy and Chirag is actually first on my list but I scrolled over to see the other people. It was nice enough to know I didn't want to text those spam messages too.

Admittedly I'm not saying it couldn't be better because I know exactly what you are talking about. If I'm on a phone call I would expect that person to be first on the list or have their own dedicated share space for messages, email, etc...

4. I have all sorts of graphical bugs and lag with iMessages like you and its unacceptable for such an essential app this day in age, I basically manage a business text. Sometimes sharing a photo will hang for 1 to 2 minutes which is a REALLY long time for me to wait and stare at my phone when I got someone waiting for an image pertaining to their job and I have a million other things to do aside from staring at a phone. I almost feel my issue related to my other devices (MacBook) or iCloud or something....

I haven't noticed your #1 issue. I'll need to pay attention to it but usually I get the notification on another devices like my Watch or Mac so it silences the subsequent devices including the phone.

I keep #2 keyclicks off anyway but thats just my personal preference.
