I've been an iCloud/mobileMe/iTools user since the beginning of time, so my appleID is @Mac.com and I have a valid @me.com Email address.

I've used me @me.com address as my primary email for more than a decade. If I go to appleId.com or to Settings-->Name, Phone Numbers, email my correct @me.com address is listed as reachable. I can use this address fine in Mail (on Mac and iOS devices).

But the @me.com address has disappeared as one of the options for my Messages/Facetime "send and Receive" addresses. It's just gone.

I've restarted, turned Messages on and off many times, etc. It's just not there: I only see my phone number, my iCloud email address, and my @Mac.com email address. The @me.com address has been there for years and years and years, and it's always my default – so all my contacts send to that address.

Any suggestions on what else I can try???

I have the same setup (@Mac and @me variants), but my @me.com addresses that are configured in Settings > Apple ID > Phone, Email & Settings > Reachable at are available to add in Messages. When you try to add a new address in Messages, what happens?

Found the answer:
  1. Go to Settings-->Name, Phone Numbers, Email (my @me address was listed there)
  2. Click Edit
  3. Click Add Email
  4. Type in the exact same email that is already in the list; when the confirmation email comes, confirm it
And to reply to Namara:

You can't actually add an address in the Messages settings, only in the main account settings (but that basically is the right answer – to add it, even though it's there).

Ha, yes you're right. That's what happens when I flipped between screens too quickly.
