iOS 14.8 - unlocking iPhone with Face ID still not unlocking the Watch

Dear Forum Users,

I know that there's been a problem with that since 14.7 or 14.7.1. It was supposed to be fixed few updates ago. Unfortunately I still can't get it to work

I have an iPhone XR with iOS 14.8 and Apple Watch 5 with watchOS 7.6.2. Before iOS 14.7 I had no problem: I put the watch on my wrist and then I used Face ID to unlock my iPhone. That unlocked my Watch automatically. That's not working anymore even with iOS 14.8.
I tried changing the passcode, disabling it and re-enabling again on different ways. Nothing.

Does anyone have this working at all? Anything else I should try except resetting devices to factory defaults?

Any help will be appreciated.

Same issue here. I am hoping iOS 15 fixes it. It should be released on September 20.

Shame they couldn't fix it with so many updates. Hope it will finally get sorted next week as you mentioned.

You didn't mention so I have to ask, did you try restarting both?

Yes, I'd say both devices were restarted over ten times each since 14.7 update.

An earlier version of iOS 14 messed up the unlock phone with watch while wearing mask but it also slowed down the unlock watch with phone. Apple definitely dropped the ball on this and quite a few other bugs in iOS 14 that's clear..

Interestingly, since introducing "unlock phone with watch while wearing mask" that works 9 out of 10 times for me, no issues to be honest. But it is really annoying that they can't fix those issues. It seems that after 14.7 they just don't care any more because "iOS 15 will be out soon".

That has been fixed in iOS 15, finally !!!!
