I decided it was a good time to update my 6s to iOS 14. There has already been two revisions with another on the way so it seemed safe to go ahead.

I plugged it into my macbook and ran the update through Finder. The update downloaded and started a installing. A couple minutes later I got this error.

The phone was frozen on the apple logo. After a while it shut off. Now when I power it up, the apple logo appears for a split second and then the display goes black , but the backlight stays on for about 5 minutes. Then the phone shuts off. WTF happened?

How can an official update go so catastrophically wrong? The phone was working perfectly before. Is my phone toast?

Update: It allows me to run the update again, but I keep getting stuck on the error 2006

Update: new errors. what a steaming pile of ....

I'm using a brand new computer and brand new USB-C to lightning cable

Eh, try to search for the errors online, different ports, different computer, restart the computer, try from DFU.
All you can do is keep trying, it’s hard to grasp the root cause of these errors.

well I turned off my firewall and got a little further this time, but it's been stuck @ around 25% for about 15 mins now.

Is that Big Sur? Might be another of the many bugs of the new release...
Try another computer if you can.
Also, the 6S might have a hardware issue that you encounter only by restoring. (happens sometimes)

OK I hooked it up to my Catalina machine, and luckily the update worked there. Phew. It's a good thing I still have it around.

Thanks.
