I just upgraded my phone today, and like usual my current phone is on a later software than the phone I just received. I have, in the past, always had to set the phone up as new, update the software, and then erase and restore from backup. To my delight, the new phone prompted me to update my software during the initial set up process.

Is this a new feature to IOS 14 or 14.3? I do not know because I am just upgrading now.

I know for sure it is not new to 14. but not sure when this feature was added. maybe 12?

Interesting. It is the first time I have ever been promoted to update my phone when doing a backup. It usually tells me that the phone is running an earlier version of IOS, so I have to "set up as new", update the phone, erase and then restore from backup.

I had this issue with my 2020 SE.

This is the first time I am doing a backup using my old phone. I wonder if it doesn't prompt for the update if you do an iCloud backup?
