Yesterday November 15, 2022 at about 3pm PST, Apple updated our Notes app. At the store in isle 14. Looking at note for what we needed. All good no problems. Got to isle 18, a whole new layout for Notes appeared. Everything sorted by months and the last two month’s, October and November notes gone. I checked our other iPhones Notes app, same change. The interesting thing, two different Apple ID’s. Some notes shared between the Apple ID’s, not all. Got home, checked our other devices, two iPads and a MacBook, same result. Contacted Apple. Two hours later and checking off all of their troubleshooting lists the answer, that should not have happened. Hilarious! This morning the same.

The new layout nice in the Notes App update. A bit taken back that data lost. The really big disappointment that I am investigating, getting just the notes data off of iCloud backup without Restoring the entire system. I do have a local Mac backup on an external HD. Not sure if restoring its Notes data and then integration with the other iCloud data will restore the data or just make the problem worse. Apple at the first two layers of support has no idea. May need to find the geek iCloud engineer burried deep in a server farm. 😀

Apple needs to move these big updates to a less busy time of the year. September through December my extra time to deal with the problems and learn plus manage all the new stuff, very limited. I vote for February.

They only changed the sort order. You can change it by tapping the three dots at the top right. No notes were lost.

Not on mine. Has sort by gallery, brings up thumbnails just like photos. The new list sorted by month, or groups and has new thumbnails. Trust me my new Notes interface nothing at all like the old one. Thanks for the input.

You can sort by Title, Date Edited, or Date Created. If you switch to Title you might see the notes you think are missing.

I'm confused. I have 3 Apple accounts in my notes and hundreds and hundreds of notes. Everything fine here. (4 accounts total).

In Settings --> Notes - you can turn off Group Notes by Date. Is that what you're wanting?

Question, when you tap the three dots does your Notes top option Gallery? Would give you a screen shot but TMI.

This is what you get when you tap the dots. Do you see the Sort By option? Try sorting by Title (Gallery doesn't affect the sorting or grouping). I'm sure you have not lost any notes.

Apple support said, no matter how one sorts it, searching for the note name will Always find it. Well we searched by name for every note missing we could remember full or parts of the name, nothing found. Whats interesting, all of our notes lists Stop in September. Nothing after September, not even a month name. We did try variations of the system settings for sorting and deleting notes. Thank you for the good suggestion.
