Maybe this has been covered, and maybe I’m just being a dolt, but my iPhone 13 Pro on iOS 16 (as of 7 hours ago) seems to suddenly use multiple languages to choose from for autocorrect and predictive text dictionaries when writing in English. It is not a language I am familiar with. It mostly appears in the suggestions above the keyboard but sometimes inserts as the chosen work when I hit space

Examples: land= lần, net = nét , an= ăn, the= thế, set= sét, so= sợ , man = mắn

These are not from any of my used keyboards (past or present). The keyboards I have enabled are: English US, Korean, Chinese [Pinyin and handwritten], emoji.

Has anyone else had similar issues? It’s targeting some common words which is getting frustrating.

The video is just showing how it appears in the top row, then builds on itself if selected. It’s popped into a few messages I’ve written without any baiting, which is what got me looking into what was happening.

Thanks!

I made an account just to respond to this. I'm having this issue too, which started once I updated to iOS16. Apple didn't really help except to say to turn off auto-correct, which only kinda helped but I like auto-correct. I tried with trial and error with deleting the other keyboards. It seems like it kinda helps so they're not the first suggestions, but not always.

Do you guys have additional languages loaded under Settings > General > Language & Region? Seems it may be trying to autocorrect with words from other languages. I removed everything except English to see if it fixes it.

This worked for me!! I had viet, and Japanese selected- I was always confused on why it kept autocorrecting.

Yes, but the language it is choosing is not either of the ones enabled. Both are non Latin script based (Korean and Chinese) and this appears to be Việt (just auto inserted that) so the English US dictionary seems to be “correcting” random words using a Vietnamese dictionary.

When I type in some I’ve found online, for example based off a search the name for the language, tiếng việt it changes (will change preceding words to match with what I’m guessing are more common Vietnamese words, much like when I type in Chinese pinyin).

This is from Language & Region? It fixed the issue when I removed them imo

I'm seeing this on iOS 16.0.2 as well. I have 5 keyboards enabled (US English, Emoji, Japanese Romaji, Japanese Kana, and Korean) but as with other posters in the thread, the predictive text suggestions all appear to be Vietnamese phrases.

I have the same issue too, but I do use the Vietnamese keyboard. The issue appears when using the English keyboard, very annoying indeed. Probably someone working on the iOS code that was Vietnamese and accidentally turned on Vietnamese as autocorrect default lol?

If you're seeing this try going into Settings->General->Language & Region. If Vietnamese is there then you can remove it. I am 1000% sure I never added that but there it was. Removing it fixed the behavior. (Note this is not the same as Keyboard prefs, it's a couple items below it)
