iPhone 11 Pro user here. I just updated to iOS 16. I’m trying to share a webpage to my iMessage group chat using the ‘share’ icon in Safari, but when I type the first few letters of the group name, the auto-complete doesn’t find the name of the group. It’s like it doesn’t exist even though the conversations exist in the iMessage app. In fact I can’t share content to any existing discussion that has more than one person (eg. Bill & Andy). This never happened before iOS 16.

Hi. This fixed it for me.

Go to settings / Siri and search / scroll down to find messages / turn on ‘learn from this app’ / switch to the messages app / find a group and send a message

From now on, you should be able to search for groups from within the messages app and the share sheet.

iPhone 13 has same issue, discovered it today when trying to share a Wordle result to our league group chat. Installed iOS 16 yesterday. Since iOS 16 installed, when trying to share a link, no group chats are available, only names from contact list. There must be a fix but can not find it.

I am having the same problem, and I am reduced that I am not alone. No one else in my family is having this issue. It’s very frustrating. I have several groups that I now have to cut and past into. Funny, Siri recognizes the group when I talk-text. Thanks for posting. Will call Apple tomorrow to report.

The only saving grace in all of this is that I now know that I am not alone :) What a mess, I’m not counting on Apple to deliver a fix anytime soon, but hopefully we’ll all be pleasantly surprised. Yes, I’m having the exact same issue…can’t get Messaging to bring up any Group Chats using auto fill and typing in just a few characters as it’s always worked. The only thing that I would add is that the update seemed to mess with my contact groups in general, but I’m not sure if those issues are related. Thanks for the “improvement” and thorough bug checks before releasing a major iOS update Apple, way to fix what wasn’t broken. Awesome.

Same. Making a new group doesn't solve the problem. In my opinion, Apple would be better served by releasing new versions of the OS when they are ready instead of by a marketing calendar. They are doing it with iPadOS and from what I have read here most people think it's a smart move.

i found a solution and made this account for everyone to share my info haha. all u have to do is go to settings > siri & search > messages > turn on ‘learn from this app’. then what i did was i went to the groupchats that i’ve been trying to send things to and i typed a random message (eg. testing). then i tried sharing and the groups popped up again. hope it helps. here’s a photo of where i learned this!

Install ios16.0.1 update to fix this issue. This is only available for iPhone 14 users.

Perhaps it needs to a be a newly-created iMessage group after the installation of 16.0. Like with the lock screen functionality not usable with your prior lock screen but only with newly created ones.

If it needs to be a newly created Group Chat, e.g. post iOS 16, then that stinks. I have a family group chat that we have used for years without issue after iOS updates. Very disappointed with this limitation in 16.

If I understand what you're describing, I think it's almost impossible to create a new conversation with the same group unless the original chat was deleted. It temporarily create a new Message but quickly reverts to the existing conversation. Is that how you were testing it?

Yes this is exactly the issue I’m having in iOS 16 - I can’t share Wordle results anymore to my family unless I copy and paste into iMessage. The receivers must be in the contacts list.

My daughter has an iPhone SE 2022 and upgraded to iOS 16 but she doesn’t have this issue for groups. Weird.

Same phone I have and no problem ... Hopefully you're all telling Apple about it so they might be able to diagnose the issue and maybe release a fix.

Same issue. 16.0.1 iPhone 14 pro max. Only way to share is to copy and then switch to messages and paste.

I just called Apple support and their workaround is to copy the URL and paste into a separate message. I told them that this is clearly a bug that needs to be fixed. This issue appears to be affecting anything that you want to share with an established group (photos, links, files, directions, etc)
FWIW, it still works great on MacOS
I have a iPhone 13 Pro and I am currently on iOS 16.0.2

I have a case opened with Apple as well. They confirmed they are working in a fix, but it’s not widespread so its not high priority
