iOS 17.2 - Deleted all my messages but iCloud says I still have them?

As you can see by storage I only have 266MB. I deleted my messages from my phone, computer, permanently deleted them, forced sync my iPhone, forced sync my Mac, etc.

Old messages from months ago that I've deleted occasionally pop up as well.

Any ideas?

fwiw, not iOS-related, but I just updated macOs, and all my deleted message from the past month reappeared, but on macOS only. Weird.

Same issue here. My iCloud usage shows 16 MB but shows that I have over 14k messages in iCloud. Only the iPad syncs properly. The iPhone and MacBook show sync paused.

No way to delete these messages. Called Apple support - clueless, as expected.
