i am connected to starlink at work, limited data usage. i turned on low data usage on the wifi hotspot, app/phone updates are off, but still the phone sent 4gb up and barely 600mb down. beeing ios i cant see what is using all my bandwidth i can only use an app that shows up/down.
i did not turn off icloud, but havent taken any new photos either.. any ideas ?!

so after one hour and maybe 50 text imessages sent im at 117mb up and 350mb down. this realy sucks as i have only 8 gb a week:mad:

What happens if you kill all of your open applications? (Scroll up from the bottom and flick them off the screen).

The only process I can think of that would generate that amount of traffic would be to turn on iCloud photos that was previously off, or the upgrade to 17.3 created a lot of curation of photos.

When I was on limited Wi-Fi I had iCloud photos off and used my Mac to manage photos.

still the same.. it seems to only happends when wifi is left on and the phone is left alone like when i sleep. i work on a ship and sometimes i do fall asleep before turning the wifi off, last night the phone uploaded 3 gb

it seems that icloud iphone backup is still running, even if its in low data mode and is supposed to pause icloud. my latest backup was last week. is there any way to pause icloud backup? will i lose my last backup then?

That's actually a bug, because Apple documentation says that low data mode should disable backups: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102433

If you disable backups in your iCloud settings, they will still be kept for 180 days: https://support.apple.com/en-us/guide/icloud/mm122d3ef202/icloud
