Hi guys,

call me all sort of things, but with 17.5 I also experienced re-surfacing photos (especially in my "hidden" folder) and now I found a file in the Files app under "On this iPhone" (a folder to be specific) that is called "Recovered items...." (with a date from 2019)

Now to be clear, this is an iPhone 14 Pro Max and obviously files from that time... well... they were on iCloud but not on THIS phone.
Sure enough, there are TONS of things in there I would have never expected to see again - and they even showed up in the "Recent" tab under my files app, which is why I even checked in the first place.

Can people here PLEASE verify if I am just a dumbo or if this actually happened? Can't believe I am asking this after 30+ years using Macs and iPhones and having worked in Apple Tech for 10+ years... lol... (sad lol)

This I read but it doesn’t mention the Files app - yet, the File system is likely similarly affected if the iOS update recovers corrupt files.
I really want to know if someone else saw files resurface, as I mentioned in my post.
I did not.

However - since the files exist in the "On My iPhone" section of Files, it would "Make sense" that it could be similar to how Photos are being resurrected. Just like with (local) photos, local Files are not "Synced" to iCloud but would be included in any backups (and restores) so an item that was removed from Files - but not removed from the file system - could be recovered.

I've not heard any credible reports of this happening. But it wouldn't shock me if it had.

Well I can verify it happened. But I guess people don’t look there to begin with because all the reports talk about photos only.
