Hi all,

It's been a while since I joined the beta program, but I recently joined the iOS 17 program to grab the RC. Now that the Release Candidate (RC) is out, I simply wanted to remove the beta profile/options from my device. I had no idea that Apple had removed the profile configuration option, so I spent a lot of time searching for the configuration file to remove.

Naturally, I've learned that all of this is managed in the updates area under beta options. I checked in that area and turned it off. However, I have a question regarding this. I see three options: off, public beta, and developer beta.

Why do I have the option to use the developer beta if I'm not a developer? Do all public beta testers also have the developer beta as an option?

I was just hoping to remove the "beta" options from my device entirely. However, based on the limited search results I found, it seems to be a permanent feature now?

The Beta profiles have been discontinued by Apple several months ago, so if you want to join or leave the Beta programme you just need to select an appropriate option under Beta updates, as in your screenshot. If you set it to OFF, you will not be offered any betas and will stay on the general public update stream. Having both Public and Dev beta options in the list is somewhat confusing, I agree, yet it also allows people to sign in with different Apple IDs.

Overall, im cool with the beta options being there. Whatever. But why do I have a dev option? Do you guys have dev option as well?

Many do. Just ignore it, there’s no way to remove that option. I suppose that mine is there because I once logged into the developer site with my Apple ID. If you turn the beta options off, I have as well, restart the device as that gets rid of the last of it including Feedback Assistant, otherwise FBA and I believe some other beta functions will remain.

Yes, I think it appears if the apple id has ever logged into dev site probably, I certainly have it too.
