My wife and I share locations with each other so we can plan when to start dinner, grab the kids, etc... It seems like in iOS 17 the location doesn't really update? In iOS 16, the location could be manually updated by hitting the "refresh" arrow. Seeing a 35 minute old location doesn't help very much...

Has any one else noticed this?

Thanks!

I lost location on my husband completely and tried to reestablish it but wont show up. My son i still have but it isnt what it used to be. There is no "live" location.

Hold up - the live location stuff for family members in Find My isn't working - or are we talking about something else?

I am sooo annoyed with this. If I would have known I would have never updated it. I hate that I can’t change the way I view the map also aside from not being able to refresh it. Literally having an anxiety attack over this. It erased a few of my favorite contacts on top of it also at different times during the last 24 hours. They better fix it ASAP bc this is too much for me to deal with when I’m checking on my kids constantly.

I also used this to check on my kids. Live view was awesome. And this new map they're using really sucks. In ios16 and had a real nice map in full living color with live view.

Yes hopefully they hurry up and fix it and come out with the new one to fix all the bugs on it bc it really does suck. It is very annoying.

Update: 9/23/23
Live seems to be engaging more regularly for all family members HOWEVER, The refresh rate when tracking via the Messages app still experiences a poor refresh rate. Looks like it updates every second or so and moves the icon. This is not the case in Find My…smooth movement of icon as wife drives down the highway.

Since updating to iOS 17 on my 12 Pro Max…live tracking either through Messages or Find My was very erratic (if working it was not a smooth track…very slow updates). The Messages version is a significant downgrade from iOS 16. No ability to refresh or change map type. Find My Maintains refresh and map types but poor Live Tracking quality, if any at all.

Since upgrading to 15 Pro Max….I no longer have any Live Location for family members. All other phones in my family group are still on iOS 16 and their Live Locations work normal.

What is the most effective way to provide this feedback to Apple?

Still broken for me. The share-location feature is literally the only reason I have an iPhone and not an Android. The fact that Apple has broken this feature on my brand new iPhone 15 Pro Max irritates me to no end. I have to re-load the map manually to get a refresh of location.

I came here to see if this was bothering others and if so, what the fix was. There needs to be a way to refresh. It’s been driving me crazy since they updated. This is one update I wish I wouldn’t have done🤦🏻‍♀️

OK, something happened and now it seems to be updating location just fine. I am on 17.0.2

Mines showing current locations a bit more accurately when I open iMessages, but it’s still not refreshing, nor is there a refresh option.

Forget that. Definitely not more accurate and my last refresh is showing 43 minutes old.

Same issue

Firstly there seems to be a difference in a favourited contact and the ones listed in family sharing under the devices tab in find my

Both update independently

My partner is listed in both

The favourited contact doesn’t refresh at all UNLESS she’s on wifi. Whilst she’s on the go it’s stuck at a location she was at days ago. I remember it was working well on day 1 of updating to iOS 17 and it’s only after I rebooted her phone that it’s been stuck at that very location.

Her devices listed under devices however is still working fine and updates even on the go

iMessage pulls location from the favourited section hence why it’s broken unless it’s on wifi again

I guess in the 3 month testing of iOS 17 no one bothered looking for anyone…

I have a similar issue since upgrading to iOS17 (along with my family). None of us upgraded to new phones, but our locations in the 'Find My' app have not been accurate - the general vicinity is accurate, but not as precise as it was before. Something changed and it is very frustrating!

Check Location Services in settings perhaps, to see if Precision Location has been turned off?

Could it be a backend issue

Cause mysteriously it’s working now no issues

In iMessage it’s not appearing under the person name like it’s meant to with iOS 17 but if I click info it’s updating in real time

Are any of u having the blank find my widget issues too?

In the add widget screen under find my all the widgets are blank. Never had this issue with iOS 16

And I fresh installed iOS 17 so it’s not a corrupted backup for sure

edit: nope still broken in some situations

fixed in 17.0.3 thankfully all my contacts are updating appropriately

in the widget menu they have find the find my people widgets appearing as well.

the item widgets are still blank for me but work when u open them up.

I can’t seem to share my location in iMessages with anyone I know. I am on 17.0.3. The people on the other end vary between iOS 15 and iOS 17.

i get the pop up “Share location Unavailable”. Please try again later.

Location services is on and all that. What’s the issue here?

I’m just saying.. it’s been over a month and this is still an issue that hasn’t been resolved. I checked my sisters location today.. it hadn’t updated in over 6 hours. And by that point I knew she had changed locations.
There are people who rely on this service to care for loved ones. How did we go from such a reliable service to.. having to cross our fingers.. hoping for the best and trying not to panic when it won’t update after over a quarter of the day has passed?

My husband's location doesn't show having updated in 2 days. The entire Location service has been rendered entirely useless at this point, when I can't see my kids or family members in any semblance of real time. So disappointed that Apple broke something that has always worked pretty flawlessly.

Resurrecting this thread to check on any current updates. I had been running iOS 16 until I had to "upgrade" to 17 due to a new phone in our family. I used to be able to watch others in the family move along the map in real time. On 17.3.1 now, and the Find My... tracking is miserable now. Occasionally I'll get current locations, but mostly I'm getting location updates minutes, hours, even days later. I've checked all settings and nothing seems out of order.

Is anyone aware of maybe a new, mystery setting that affects Find My...'s functionality?
