The only feature I can think of that is not supported on all devices that are capable of ios17 is the night stand mode because it requires the always on display. Obviously anything related to dynamic island would be exclusive to those phones, but everything else should work.

It was a very very minor upgrade: stickers, predictive text, posters. Not sure what they will announce in September with the new iPhone, but nothing so far in ios17 seems unique. I'm sure they will announce something along side the new iPhone that only that phone will support for no reason other than to force upgrades.

I believe standby is on every phone, the screen just doesn't stay on. I think there was an accessibility feature that uses the LiDAR sensor that won't be available either.

With that said the iPhone SE has the same processor as the latest iPhone, nothing should be missing unless there's a physical hardware difference.

Hi.

I‘m starting to consider buying an iPhone SE third gen, because sometimes when I grab an iPhone 14 on a store, my eyes hurt a bit, and I get headache.

I’m not a particular fan of the iPhone 6 design in 2023, but this is currently the only iPhone with an LCD screen with an A15 SoC.

I’m opening this thread because most people talking and testing iOS 17 are using the latest devices, but what about the iPhone SE 3? I’m pretty sure that some features won’t be available on the cheapest iPhone, but I don’t know which ones because the SE3 has an A15 and it is plenty powerful. Maybe those relying on Face ID such as the minimum distance from the eyes to the screen warning. But, do most of the iOS 17 features work on the SE? Maybe the LockScreen with the clock Isn’t available?

I’m all eyes to know what features I’ll be missing if I finally buy an SE3.

I guess the battery life will be bad, but hopefully not as bad as my iPhone 8.

Any updates on how standby mode works on iPhone se? Can you just turn off auto lock?
As far as I know, it works but it’s complicated because you have to attach the iPhone horizontally while charging, and the SE 3 doesn’t have MagSafe. But if you manage to keep it into position, yes, it works.

By the way, I’m going to report my thread in order to get it merged with this one, because I opened a thread about iOS 17 on the SE 3 without knowing it already existed.

If it's the same as on XS then no, the display dims anyway.

You can just use the Lightning port, but a dedicated stand would obviously be better.

I'm on the beta now. It's really good. Standby appears after a couple of seconds when phone is locked in landscape. The screen goes blank after a few seconds but Standby reappears when the screen is tapped or if the phone is moved just a little. This is surprising because tap to wake is not a feature offered on the non-Standby lock screen on the newer iPhone SE's. Great implementation. Actually suits me better than always on display. I don't always want to know the time if I wake in the middle of the night.

Many thanks for sharing your opinion, the only thing preventing me from buying the iPhone SE 2022 is the lower maximum brightness compared to my iPhone 8, but it’s a very interesting device. If the 15 Pro ends up having an obscene price tag in Europe, or PWM affects my eyes, I’m almost certain I’ll buy a third green SE.

By the way, the cool AirDrop animation between iPhones running iOS 17 is present on the SE3 as well? Please keep us up to date!

Is the iPhone SE in your signature a first or second gen?

I have it on my SE 2 (A13 SoC). I don’t daily it, and the only new feature I really care about is the keyboard. But even on that older phone, I haven’t noticed anything explicitly not working.

My work phone is the SE 2022. It's not as bright as my 13 pro can get, but I don't have an issue with it. I rarely run my brightness, on my 13, higher than 40(ish)% anyway.
