iOS 18.1 public beta - Phone call recording and transcribing?

A bit of help needed guys. I’m running iOS 18.1 public beta in the UK, but with language set to English (US) to enable Apple Intelligence.
The problem I have is that if I record a phone call I get the audio recording in the Notes app, but I can't see anywhere the option to transcribe the recording to text.
Any ides what I’m missing?

I am having the same issue. I have checked all of my settings and I'm thoroughly confused as to why I do not get the button to transcribe as shown on other sites and in demos.

I'm very glad I'm not alone in having the problem. I wonder if it has yet to be rolled out properly?

It'd be useful if a few others would chime in to say whether it is there for them or not.

I just hope I'm not missing some minor thing in settings that I have overlooked or changed in years gone by. Having been through thoroughly though I can't see anything.

Upgrading from BETA 3 to BETA 4 but that didn't make any difference (to this issue) so I reported it via the feedback app.

I tried recording calls for both my physical SIM (Lebara) and esim (O2) and it doesn't work for either.

I had the same thought and went through every setting I could think of, same result that you see, nothing obvious (or not) that needed changing. I tested on a physical SIM on EE (UK).... nada.

I'm on PB beta 4 which was an upgrade from iOS 18.0.1 (production).

Just noticed something interesting, someone sent me an 8 minute whatsapp audio. I much prefer reading and I can focus on the important bits vs listening to the entire message.

I normally use Async to transcribe voice memos but it has a 5 minute limit, so I took a chance and exported/shared it to the native Notes app. To my surprise I was able to transcribe that recording but still cannot transcribe the calls.

At least in theory the phone can do it. There may just be a glitch that has stopped us.

I'm on a 16 Max Pro and assume if you ran 16 you're on a different model so it's definitely odd!

Interesting, let's hope it is a glitch then. Excuse my typo, I was on 18.0.1 and I'm using a iPhone 16 Pro Max too
Roll on the next beta I guess!

Well I'm now on the RC build and still can't get phone call transcribing to make an appearance.

When I no longer wish to be a beta tester, how do I opt out?

Just go into the software update settings and turn off the beta option.

There are some region shenanigans at play with this feature. Call recording is for everyone but transcription isn't. For English transcription is only available for US and Australia. The transcription won't appear with other English varieties.

You can technically still generate a transcript by exporting the audio to Voice Memos.

Understood, but as AI wont work without changing the language to USA I was hoping that would be enough. I guess we'll have to wait and see with 18.2 when it will (hopefully) be expanded to other countries.

Thank you for explaining this. At least I can now get my calls transcribed by exporting them. An extra step but better than no transcription.
