Ever since iOS 18.3, I am noticing poor performance.

For example, when I wanted scan a QR code with the camera, the camera froze with a blank black picture. I had to reopen the camera app then it worked fine but still slow upon opening the camera app.

Safari... When I signed out from my email account, it took some time to finally sign out from my email account using Safari.

Apps are just sluggish at times.

I even have Apple Intelligence turned OFF. And also, background refresh turned OFF as well.

Have anyone else facing slowness on 18:3?

Seems like a common problem according to a generic Google search: https://www.google.com/search?q=ios+18.3+camera+freeze

It's a pity too because Apple no longer signs 18.2.x so there's no way to downgrade. This is why I never update until I'm desperate or I have an app that becomes completely obsolete. It's basically Apple's way or the highway.

Yeah 18.3 is a bit cranky for me as well. Same issues.

The camera app white balance is even worse than usual as well. Not sure if that's coincidental or not though. Everything shifts to orange. Started carrying my mirrorless camera around now like the early 00s.

18.3 makes my phone kind of sluggish as well. Mainly can be very choppy animation when opening and closing apps and using Dynamic Island. I went back to 18.2.1 hoping that 18.4 fixes these issues

I just had the camera app take 15 seconds to load on my 2 month old iPhone 16 (setup as a new device, mind you).

iOS slop is starting to really affect experience.

Honestly, I’m on 17.7.2 (still) and this is has been happening since I bought my iPhone 15 Pro. It’s one of the main reasons I’m dissatisfied jumping from Android to iOS with this phone.

Sometimes I get a black screen opening camera. Sometimes changing lenses is sluggish. Sometimes it gets stuck in previous lens on screen, but the lens I changed to is highlighted as lens in use. Sometimes camera app shuts down during this, sometimes not. Quite often the photo is completely blurry, not out of focus, completely blurry. Sometimes the picture takes forever to save. Sometimes the shutter button doesn’t react. Sometimes the shutter button is sluggish, even the shutter sound is laggy. Sometimes opening an image and pinching in to the image, the image is blurry and takes 1-2 seconds to show full detail. And it’s all random.

Sometimes = at least once a day or once every second day. Ok take about 30-40 pics a day, some days 100. No, not selfies 🤌😎 but I have absolutely none of these issues with the selfie cam

I'm gonna spend next weekend to factory reset my phone and reinstall everything. Perhaps update to 18...even if...well let's see 😎

Version .1 has improved stuttering for me as well. However, I still occasionally notice it, particularly when opening and closing certain apps. I also experience brief stuttering when using the Dynamic Island—for example, when closing the music app and it transitions into the Dynamic Island, then swiping between pages causes a slight stutter for about a second.

An uptodate iPhone thats current generation or previous shouldn’t be stuttering in 2025. A iPhone Pro shouldn’t be stuttering if its current or past 2 generations.

If they are, this should be Apples main focus above all else for next iOS.

TBH after using S24 and S25 Ultra, it makes me jello pink when I compare their smoothness with my 16 Pro Max which barely hits 120hz in rare circumstances. It feels like it's display is throttled hard at 90hz to preserve battery because Apple as usual manages to use the cheapest and lowest capacity battery using oldest technology.

I would say that it's the poor outdated battery tech that is holding back all iPhones as to preserve battery life, Apple has to make severe compromises with regards to SOC throttling and screen refresh rates.
