With the iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 betas, Apple is introducing a new Priority Notifications feature that can show you your most important notifications first.

Apple first announced Priority Notifications when showing off Apple Intelligence in June, but it wasn't implemented until now. Priority Notifications is disabled by default, but it can be turned on by going to Settings > Notifications > Prioritize Notifications and tapping the toggle.

With the feature enabled, Apple Intelligence will show notifications that may be important in a dedicated section of the Lock Screen.

I might try this on a weekend, but I really don’t trust Apple Intelligence enough yet to leave this active full time.

It’s hard enough to trust AI for specific requests. I just can’t see a world where I let AI decide what’s important to me and what isn’t. I’d hate to miss a message or other notification because some AI algorithm decided it wasn’t something I needed to see.

I dislike Apple Intelligence features sprinkled throughout the Settings app. Apple is probably aiming to make Apple Intelligence an integral part of the overall user experience. For now, these features should be duplicated or moved to Apple Intelligence settings section so that users can customize their exposure to AI.

I restarted my 16 pro max after the update and it showed up for me. I then went to look at my iPad pro M1 and it was already there so perhaps it had to download as someone else said.

I’ll give it a go, last week I was a victim of bank fraud and it took me 18 hours to notice because iOS had hidden the notifications from my bank app about the extravagant payments coming out of my account in the older notifications section you have to manually swipe down to reach, presumably because it had happened at 0200 while I was asleep.

It would be a handy feature if it was working and trustworthy. Can’t believe they call it iOS 18.4 beta because all the features offered sofar are beta and not properly working. The whole iOS 18.x is a beta experience. Doesn’t bode well for iOS 19.

You could say stop announcing new capabilities but seeing how far behind Apple is getting on Android, that’s not an option.

Can’t you send a bill to Timmy for the time you spend solving this? What’s your hourly fee? 💰😜

Just getting some of the promised features 9 months after announcing them is pathetic and proof to how far Apple has fallen from the peak of their RD and Stable iOS selling points. It's all just MEH to me and smoke and mirrors and I won't use that stuff much. I plan to decrease my screen time to like an hour a day from 2-2.5 a day currently. Just getting sick of being on the phone and devices anymore.

So Focus Modes was “we don’t know what to give you so figure it out yourselves”. And this is “we will automate it but don’t expect it to be reliable.”

I've already had Apple Mail highlight phishing mails as priority so I have very little confidence in them getting this right. I really don't wanna see them start highlighting text messages like "You have a package, click here to pay the customs fee".
