iOS 18.6 Beta Release Notes

This update provides important bug fixes and security updates, and fixes an issue in Photos that could prevent memory movies from being shared.

Additional Notes
To get the beta over-the-air:
  1. Enable Beta Updates (Settings > General > Software Updates > Beta Updates)
  2. Make sure you’re signed into the right Apple Account
  3. Select which beta you’d like to receive (public/developer beta)
  4. Hit "Back" and pull down to refresh
  5. Back up to a computer or to iCloud
  6. Install the beta
If you no longer wish to receive beta updates:
  1. Turn off the Beta Updates (you can also sign out of your Apple Account to reset this setting)
  2. Wait for the next public release or follow the guide below to go back to a release build
Troubleshooting: If the beta doesn’t show up on your phone, try turning on airplane mode, then turning it back off, or restart your device.

How to install using a Mac?
  1. You’ll need the Xcode beta itself or a MobileDevice.pkg somebody extracted from the beta (click with two fingers or control-click), then choose Show Package Contents. Go to Contents/Resources/Packages. - this will work on older Macs that do not support the latest macOS or Xcode betas)
  2. Back up to your Mac or to iCloud in case you need to go back to another version
  3. Hold down Option, then click on ‘Check for Update’/‘Restore iPhone...’ and select the IPSW file you downloaded from the Apple Developer site. Note: You must be connected to the internet to complete the restore.
  4. Enter your iPhone passcode if you’re prompted to do so.
Notes/Tips:
  • Always keep a backup in case you need to restore your phone
  • Restoring wipes your settings and all data on your iPhone
  • You only need to reinstall MobileDevice.pkg if your Mac stops recognizing your iPhone
  • There is no MobileDevice.pkg equivalent to iTunes for PC which would require a new iTunes to support new/beta iOS
  • Upgrading to a newer iPhone? You can update using your Mac before setting up the phone

People with 14 pros… let me know how things go. Still on 16.7.2 and looking to take the plunge as I know some of my apps will be losing support for iOS 16 in the coming months so I’m going to be forced anyways. Been a great ride on iOS 16 but I think the time has finally come. I’m just afraid of the “heating” and battery drain reports on here as my 14 pro has maybe 1 time got warm and that was back when I played Pokémon go! Otherwise this thing is cool and battery has been great on iOS 16.

No update available through iTunes on PC, says beta 6 is the current version.

Still not available via PC but is available via ipsw me.
 
IPSW for iOS 18.6 now available.

iTunes 12.13.7.1 is still the latest version.

Still running iOS 17.7 on iPhone 11 Pro Max but on the fence of whether to upgrade to iOS 18.6 or not.

Some apps already require at least iOS 17.6 but even if you no longer receive app updates if you are still running iOS 16.x or older, the apps ideally should still work unless you get a message that you need to upgrade to the latest iOS version for the app to work.

Well now GIPHY has the same problem as it had on iOS 26. When in Messages, the top menu bar is hidden so you can’t get to your favorites and uploads. Worked fine in 18.5, but 18.6 and the 26 betas both have this issue.

Yes, I was happy with the last RC and I’m happy with this new release. It feels as smooth and fast as the last week on the RC.

Obviously some things were changed over the RC as it’s a newer build number & install.

Happy staying on this stable and top performing 18.6 release for the foreseeable! Not going near iOS 26 yet..

Is anyone noticing that certain keys (backspace, “123”) on the keyboard are now significantly darker in color? Maybe it’s just a bug but it kind of caught me off guard.

You can download the ipsw from the developer site and shift+update selecting that file in iTunes. Not sure iTunes will ever update from the RC.
