Can someone test and confirm if Notes on iOS/iPadOS 18 & macOS Sequoia sync in the background or have conflict resolution?

It seems this is the only iCloud item that only syncs when the app is opened. If you don’t have connectivity or don’t wait long enough for the sync, you can lose data… guess how I found this out?

For me notes seem to sync exactly the same as in iOS 17, but you do need to have a reliable connection. I have updated five different notes yesterday on the iPad and they all look updated on my iPhone now.

You can also work on your notes in off-line mode and they will update themselves on the iCloud as soon as your device is connected to the internet. The problem arises if you work on a note in off-line mode on one device and then try to carry on working on it on another, as the data may not have synched over yet. If both devices are online, though, there should not be an issue.

I thought that would be the case... A good way to check is this:

1) Leave Device A locked & not in the Notes app.
2) On Device B, make changes to or add a note.
3) Wait a minute to give a chance for your changes to sync to iCloud.
4) Unlock Device A and turn off WiFi/Cellular, then open the Notes app.

For any other iCloud services such as Contact, Calendar, Reminders, Photos, etc, they would have synced in the background instantly. With Notes, the changes sync to iCloud instantly but the devices don’t pickup the changes until you open the Notes app. It behaves similar to an email account set to fetch manually.
