I am following a MLB team and have the score displayed in the dynamic island. However, I am finding the audible tone every time a team scores as incredibly annoying.

• TV app: Under Notifications, "Sounds" OFF
• Sports app: There are no Notification settings
• News app: Notifications toggled OFF

But none of this seems to have any affect on the dynamic island notification sound. How can I simply kill this notification sound, without killing sports scores in dynamic island?

Googling this is useless... nearly every result is not relevant to iOS 18 or this issue.

EDIT: The sound seems to be the "system default" (or at least it's the same sound clip), which can be turned off. However, I don't want to disable the default sound for the entire system; I just don't wish to hear a notification every time my team scores. I am happy enough to just have the current game score displayed in the island.

I tried enabling Live Activites in the Sports app and it enabled Live Activities in the TV app on another device on an older version. My guess is they are somehow connected behind the scenes and the lack of notification control for Sports is an oversight.

Your solution of changing the default sound is the only solution I have found so far.

I had to do it. Last Sunday, I was getting spoiler dings for Bears field goals 2 seconds before they were actually broadcast on my satellite channel. Plus, with a baseball and hockey game happening simultaneously, it was a little more than ridiculously annoying and distracting. ding, ding, ding, ding....

Although I am happy with iOS 18, because they finally got NFL games in the island.

-------

Any idea what other impact(s) this has?

In other words, do you know what other things would use this default system sound?

Every app that doesn't have a unique sound uses the default sound. Messages for example has its own sounds, but most 3rd party apps will use the default.

I have sounds for most third party apps disabled already, so that's a moot point. I cannot even imagine the hellish nightmare of many dozens of third party apps making a ding for my attention.

If you’re wearing an Apple Watch on os11 live activities notifications is hot or miss, most miss. Doesn’t matter the sports app either

Edit: actually I lose the notifications for all live activities ever so often. I want it so I have to turn off live activities on the Lock Screen, then back on. Then disable the app live activities and enable again.
