iPhone ios 4.1 to ios 6 or ios 5?

So my friend has an iphone 4 and never updated his ios since 2010...well I wanted to update his phone for him but wanted to put ios 5 on it vs the new ios 6 I have on my iphone 5.

I know you you cant revert to ios 5 from ios 6 without blobs but...

I have jailbroken a few iphone 4 before and was wondering was there anyway I could jailbreak his phone then update to ios 5 or no because the SH blobs would be for ios 4??

Or is the only option to update to ios 6 and call it a day?

no blobs is no update to ios 5

Without SHSH blobs no the window is closed. You can use Tiny Umbrella to verify that the blobs are not saved.
