Sorry if this is a duplicate thread, but i actually cannot understand what is taking them all this time to push out iOS 4 for the iPad, i can understand if they were waiting until it got released everywhere first, but now, surely we must see something (even just a Developer Beta) next Wednesday? So i was actually thinking that they could bring us iPad-Only features? I am personally wanting the same Native apps as the iPhone (Stocks, Calculator and Clock) but perhaps we could see a widget interface? From a Hardware point of view, if they were to implement a Widget interface (say, similar to the OSX Widget interface) would this be possible on the current hardware? regards, skate71290

To be fair, it's not really taking them long to push it out...... they announced it would be available in the Fall, and it isn't the Fall yet.

I assume that they were busy with iOS4 for the iPhone. I would guess that if they didn't have to deal with releasing 4.0.1 (reception bar update) and then 4.0.2 (PDF vulnerability update), perhaps we would have seen an early release of iOS4 for iPad.

We might get a preview on sep 1st and then the beta will be given out to developers right after the event so u can wait till wensday

Sept 1st man !!!

I really hope they release it on Wednesday. I'll be a happier man.

I fear you may be correct; however, it is better than nothing seeded out to devs. It does make sense that they will get it first and then the gen. public. I can certainly say, based on my inclination, that they will seed out a dev version on Wednesday. Even though, I hope they release it to gen. public then.

Umm.. Shoot me down if you like but what do people really want from iOS4 for iPad, except for multitasking?

Having folders may be handy but I can't really think of anything else.

(it's not like the phone where it added iBooks, BT keyboard support etc.)

Well... The multitasking is kinda a big deal, especially since the iPad is more of a laptop type device.

And I want a different os4 than the iPhone. Widgets would be awesome

I agree, multitasking is the only major iOS 4 feature I really need. I prefer to organise my apps by pages rather than folders, just can't be bothered to reorganize them from the folders on my iPhone.

Don't like email threading so have it turned off on IP4. Unified inbox may be useful and the smart links function is pretty good, but not essential by any means.

Not saying it would be included in v4, but the iPad needs to have native printing. It also needs a file management system at some point.

Those two thing you mentioned are a huge deal. Im sick of having pages and pages of apps, and the jailbreak solutions aren't as good as having native folders. and multitasking is major. That's basically all it needs other than native printer support and file management

I'm partly just interested to see what else they manage to do with it, but mostly there are a few things which i find annoying now that i'm vaguely hoping might be improfed with the next big update. Photos needs a huge update in terms of being able to sort and organise photos, especially things saved from the CCK. Ideally there'd be an Aperture for iPad that would allow tagging etc, but suspect that will be further off. And other things like auto-downloading of subscribed podcasts, an alarm clock that doesn't require the app to be left open, being able to play to AirTunes speakers would be great, that sort of thing.

Knowing that a major update is coming gives me a little hope that some of these will be improved. :)

What am I waiting for iOS4 for?

: Multitasking - Soundpaper recording in the background whilst I look something up elsewhere.. Yes please!
: Folders - I've run out of pages for apps. Weeks ago!
: Mail threading - one of the mailboxes on my ipad is for a mailing list. Mail threading nao please!

can't think of any others right now..

Multitasking is what I'm waiting for. Not even the background features, actually, just the "fast switch" bar! I can't be the only one who keeps double clicking the home button on my iPad to try to switch apps.

I'll be happy when I no longer have to see that stupid "Please Rate This App!" every time I try to delete an app.

Unified inbox & threaded messages in Mail.

Hopefully playlist folders will make it into the iPod app.

Notes syncing.
