My wife has a verizon iPhone 4 on iOS 4.2.10.

I updated my at&t iPHone 3gs to iOS 5.

If I send her a text message she gets it. But, if she sends me a text message I never get it.

Anybody have any idea why that is happening? Obviously I will be updating her phone to iOS 5, but couldn't do it last night and tonight I tried to download the update in iTunes and it took 2.5 hrs to download and by then she was sleeping. So I will have to update it tomorrow night.

Any fix anybody can think of before then?

I'm not sure what the problem is, but the OS version should not have anything to do with this. You are not forced to upgrade, nor will not upgrading affect your ability to send or receive texts.

This may, or may not, be an issue of your device needing to be "reset" on Verizon's or at&t's end. May need to call them, and just make sure that your phone is being recognized by their system. Worth check to rule out possibilities.

This should be correct, but...

It looks like there may be some kind of bug, which is causing some 3GS users to not receive SMS (I think the issue is with your phone having iOS 5, not the fact that the message is being sent from another iPhone with iOS 4).

EDIT: I'm not having this issue myself. Some people are apparently also reporting it on the iPhone 4, although most of the complaints seem to come from 3GS owners. I don't see that anyone has identified a solution short of setting up the phone as a new phone, which deletes all the content that's not usually synced (you might be able to use iCloud to get around this, though).

roflol if that's the case I'm not going to worry about it. I get my new iPhone 4s today. Then I will be wiping my 3gs clean to be used inside one of these - http://www.griffintechnology.com/sites/default/files/GB30011_Product_WoogiePink_01.jpg :) for my daughter - loaded with movies :) It'll be a tinkerbell and finding nemo machine lol.

Haha, sweet, glad to see there's a market for the Woogie. :)

Oh yes there is. My 2.5 yr old daughter is going to love it.

Anyways, it is a 3gs iOS 5 issue. Cuz as soon as I activated my VZ iPhone 4s I got all my missing text messages. :D
