iOS 5.0.1 erasing iTunes playlists

Ever since updating to the new software and syncing with iTunes, most of my playlists have had the music erased in iTunes. The playlist names are there, but they're now empty. Not all of them, but most, and it means I've lost about 6 years worth of playlists.

Anyone else seen this and got any solutions?

To be expected with a beta. Apple does say to only use it on test devices and not in production. If you are going to go against what Apple says one would think that you would have a back up. Did you have a backup?

Are you sure it's not just gone from the device and not iTunes? My device lists are gone completely but I still have everything in the correct list on my Mac.

Unfortunately not. All playlists appear on iTunes, but are empty.

I do have them backed up (although from a month or so ago). Just annoying really.

Dont mess with unofficial updates on non-test devices.

I dont even think a discussion of this issues ia appropriate for this forum if 5.0.1 is not an official release.

Better discussed in a beta forum.

its a bug!

the playlists dont show but still exist! ie connect your phone to itunes and expand it, you'll see all the playlists still exist, they just don't show in the iphone music app.

I've seen this bug, or one very much like it, since iOS3 or so. If it is the same bug, the workaround is to make the iOS device rebuild its internal media index, and I was able to do so by either transferring a new track or deleting an old one.

iCloud and IOS 5.0.1 A MESS

I don't know what is going going on at Apple but since Jobs passed away, the quality control and the errors are by the hundreds.
iCloud reads different than address book.
iCal and the cloud need re sync.
iPhone looses all your playlist and you need to reselect and re sync.
C'mon, is this going to be the trend at Apple?
The "fix" for the battery on 4S is even worse.
Apple should issue major notices and acknowledgments of their wrong doings.

upgrading to 5.0.1 might have caused this to happen to me. i just upgraded this past week when i switched iphones.... so maybe the switch to a new phone, and then restoring from icloud had something to do with it also.

This just happened to me, the same as the original poster, with one exception.

I don't use itunes in the cloud or music match. don't have either one setup. the cloud stuff might be automatic for all i know, but i know i don't have music match.

anway, ONLY the playlist i sync to the phone have been emptied. This either has to do with i updated iTunes, or because i just switched iphones last week. switched from one 4s to a different 4s. i switched ipads also (same model, just a switch). or because the new iphone has 5.0.1 on it when i had not upgraded the previous one. something causes my playlists to be emptied....

HOW DO I GET THEM BACK?
I know itunes keep this "previous itunes library" files in the music folder. can i somehow use that to be my plastlists back????
