Since the upgrade to iOS 5 I have been experiencing a large number of app shutdowns. It happens in Apple apps, like Safari, and in third party apps, like games and weather apps, etc. anything seems to be vulnerable and it is getting irritating. It is happening on my iPhone 4s, my iPad 2 and 4th generation touch. It's also happening to my wife and her devices. She has an iPhone 4 and doesn't want me to upgrade her iPad because of it. Anybody else noticing this?

Nope, but maybe it's because I didn't restore from backup, I installed 5.0 from scratch and then installed everything else.

my iPad (first gen) has become almost completely unusable because of this exact issue. My iPhone 4 seems to be working perfectly. I might try to go back to previous version. I tried to do a full restore today, but everything I try to run quits within 30 seconds or so (Music.app, Apple APP store, Pandora, Netflix, and every other App I tried).

I upgraded 2 iPad2s and 1 iPad1 and haven't had any issues except for one app that since has had an update. Try a reboot and if that doesn't help I would reinstall.

Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings.

Helped me immensely. It leaves all your data alone and all your accounts in place but it resets the things like the on off toggles, known wifi networks, bluetooth etc. Stuff you can very quickly change back to how you like it.

Day and night difference with my IP4 after I did that.

I also updated an iPhone 4, iPad 2 and iPad 1 and don't have any issues with anything really. It's all been blazing fast (sort of especially not on the iPad 1) and perfectly stable. The only app that crashes sometimes is the app store, especially when I choose the update icon to check the updates..... But nothing more.

Also, too many apps running? Close them from the recently used app list or power the phone off then back on.

Thanks for all the comments everybody, but this ain't my first rodeo. Yes, I loaded from scratch and did not use a backup. As far as I have noticed so far, all of the crashing apps I am concerned about have already been updated for iOS 5, and I seldom leave unused apps open. And yes, I have restarted the devices several times and reset the settings. I'm down to mostly safari crashes on my iPad and various game crashes on my iPhone 4s. I also notice several of the games are still not functioning exactly right, even after their updates. Those are probably programming problems in the apps themselves. I will probably try another clean install if the problems persist, but I am moderately surprised more people aren't having problems.

I have my own app on the app store and it has been having a lot of problems since the new OS has been available. I've contacted Apple about it because I don't want to spend the money to modify the app when Apple may just come out with a change to IOS5 that will fix these issues. If it were just my app I would not expect any changes but I've also heard of lots of apps crashing on the new iPhone and new OS.

The fact i happens even with Safari indicates there's something weird going on with the iOS installation itself.

I have been getting a lot of safari crashes too! I thought I was the only one but have read about this happening to others...it's irritating to say the least because it just happens randomly. I hope it gets better
